Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Midway between North Wollongong Beach & City Beach, you have the choice of the nice little beach in Belmore Basin or the pools. More suited to families with young ones as it is well protected and calm. Lots of grass or seats to sit & watch between dips. Busy walk & cycle way bisects the area and a good alternative to the surf beaches nearby. Plus good facilities & a cafe on site.

Great day for a fish and chip meal with my Dad. Lucky to get parking close to the basin on such a glorious day. Always plenty of activity with families all having a great time. Very good afternoon.

We were spending a couple of days in Wollongong and so the first place we went to look at was Belmore Basin. We managed to get a park up near the lighthouse and had a walk around. The views over the basin are just wonderful. Unfortunately, the day we visited there had been a fuel leakage which closed the beach, not that it kept too many from having a swim or paddle.
There are quite a few restaurants in the area, we had a lovely lunch of fish and chips at one of them while watching all the people passing by. There is a fabulous shady kids playground which was really being used. The shade trees are lovely so it would be a really nice place to bring a picnic rug to and just relax.

The Beach Cove, at Belmore Basin is a great place for families, especially on a hot day. Nice and close to take aways for ice cream and chips. Watch out for those sea gulls!!!

Its spring time 2019 and not many better things to do than have a picnic lunch in the basin area. Close to the kids play area enables you to watch and enjoy all the kids antics against a backdrop of a beautiful coastal area. Great facilities and there is just so much to appreciate. The council have spent well in making this a top class place to hang out.

There is a lot going on in this area. There's the beauty of the basin itself with its boats and old lighthouse. There are the massive concrete blocks at the distant end of it protecting the basin from the surging sea beyond. There is the convict and Italian immigrant history of the basin. There's the fish coop - does it still function? There's the park at the other end where people launch off into the water with their paddle boards.
But for all that, I recommend you simply buy an ice cream, or fish and chips, in that park, and simply enjoy the view and activity of the place.

Nice & scenic with some grass, shade , some food choices & a Cycleway/Walkway and a sheltered basin , great for parking your boat but the water quality ? Not too sure about going in for a dip ? I think the signs are there for a reason, SUP would be fine, just don't fall off ! North Gong beach is not too far away & a lot better choice I think ?

Belmore Basin is a nice safe area for swimming especially for kids. The parking is limited, but that keeps the numbers down. Nice pathways to North Gong beach and plenty of cafes around.

Had a great time at the basin on Australia Day. The area was buzzing with people, Food stalls and sand sculpting on the sand of the basin. Plenty on the northern end enjoying the cool safe swimming area. Top place to take young kids.
