About
Located in the Country Music Capital, the Big Golden Guitar stands prominently on the New England Highway on the southern approach to Tamworth. With easy parking options for travellers in all vehicles from motorbikes and cars through to caravans and RVs, it's the perfect stop-off on your visit. The Big Golden Guitar is an Australian and Tamworth icon, which has been visited and photographed by literally hundreds of thousands of people, has featured in many film and TV documentaries and has served as a backdrop for a number of TV commercials. It was officially opened by country music star Slim Dusty and Mr Paul Crombie, General Manager of Tourism NSW, on January 25th 1988. It is a tribute to Tamworth’s rich country music heritage and international reputation as the heart of Australian country music, and is a replica of the famous Golden Guitar Award presented to artists at the annual Country Music Awards of Australia, the Toyota Golden Guitar Awards.

    Famous golden guitar
Golden guitar is located in the parking lot just outside this centre where it also housed the wax museum, will have to be careful for the littlies as the car park can get really busy with KFC next door and a drive through coffee shop up on from that. FYI best coffee in Tamworth is this drive through coffee shop. Souvenir stop is here, local activities and places to visit can also be asked her along with amble catalogue and reading materials. Staff is absolutely lovely here and remember face which makes us visitors feels so valued so thank you staff 👏🏻

Short & sweet stop on the road trip
Very well-created and well-maintained museum. The wax statues were very lifelike and each musician was well-researched. It was a fun way to end our time in Tamworth, just a bit of fun on the way out of town. My teenage daughter and I were impressed by all the cool guitars. Reasonably priced, great photo ops, friendly & helpful staff.

A must visit when you’re in Tamworth. We enjoyed it very much. We were able to purchase some souvenirs and also found the free maps to be very helpful. Also took a photo of the big golden guitar!

Wife wanted to see the wax museum - it was interesting and good displays and story boards. Guitar museum a bit less interesting (for us) but a good range on display

This is not just an information centre. Inside is the wax museum and guitar museum - definitely worth a visit - very interesting and well done. It’s a drive out of town but don’t let that put you off.

Stopped by here for morning tea, and was not disappointed. We had coffee and scones. The jam provided was very interesting, I think it was mandarine with some other fruit, not really sweet and home made.Very nice.
