About
HELLO KOALAS SCULPTURE TRAIL, PORT MACQUARIE is a fun and entertaining day out for people of all ages and it's FREE! There are 80+ one metre high fibreglass koala sculptures, dotted across the region, from the mountains to the sea. The hand painted sculptures, created by local artists, offer a dazzling display of original artwork. Hello Koalas is a bold, ambitious and imaginative sculpture project, celebrating one of Australia's iconic animals - the Koala. It's designed to generate a sense of surprise for everyone who comes across the creatively decorated koalas resting in parkland, lazing by the river, waiting outside the shops, or playing with children. Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail Guide is free from many tourism outlets, including the Visitor Information Centre at the Glasshouse on Clarence Street, or download a pdf online before you arrive. Hello Koalas sculptures are sponsored by local businesses and organisations to enable the Trail to be a free experience for everyone to enjoy!

There are over 70 of these colorful fiberglass replicas of the koala and we managed only a few as they appeared dotted around all over the place. Interesting concept, ideally for kids.

Thank you for your review. We now have over 80 Hello Koalas sculptures on the Trail as a free cultural tourism attraction for the community and visitors to enjoy. The Glasshouse Arts and Visitor Centre and other tourism outlets have a complimentary map to guide people around the Trail - I hope you were able to pick one up. There are around 40 sculptures around the town in easy walking distance or a short drive. Did you know that we are also building the Big Koala for the summer? It will be 2.5 metre high and placed at the new Cowarra State Forest tourism hub, near the Pacific Highway. Interestingly, the Hello Koalas sculptures are much loved by people of all ages. Family groups are our principal audience (often children, parents, grandparents). Seniors are our second largest audience with lots of individuals, couples and groups popping into our Hello Koalas Gift Shop to have a chat about their experience following the Trail and to pick up a colouring book or T towel as a memento. We love hearing about peoples reactions to the Hello Koalas sculptures. One of the things we are most proud of is that we spent 9 months working with the Koala Hospital to create an authentic design of the species of koala found in Port Macquarie! And finding some amazing local artists to work with. This enables us to promote koala care and conservation in a unique and memorable way. If you visit Port Macquarie again, please contact me and I'd be happy to give you a short guided tour. Thanks again for your interest.

The gorgeous sculptures are a credit to this who made them and thought of such a simple, genius idea to attract tourists to different parts of Port Macquarie!

Amazing amazing project!!!!! My teenagers had a blast chasing these koalas all over town. Met the talented lady that started this project and she is one of the loveliest people you could meet. Such a treasure to talk to. Would love to see Tourism Australia support this amazing lady and her project just a little bit more so she could potentially have a centrally located office and extra staff to help her out, as the office is a bit out of the way for tourists and can't afford to be open full time, but I imagine this is all the project could afford at the present time. I hope to see this project get bigger and better. Best wishes to all xo

We are so glad to hear your family enjoyed the Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail and thank you for your comments. I am a little embarrassed! With the installation of the Big Koala later this year at the new Cowarra State Forest tourism precinct, we hope to expand our retail presence in the region. But I, for one, enjoy talking to people who come through the doors of the Hello Koalas Gift Shop. We are appreciative too of the ongoing support from our state and federal members, since we established the Trail back in 2014 with 50 Hello Koalas sculptures. Now we have 80! We shall see what transpires after COVID! Thanks again and come and see us again soon. Margret

These koalas are absolutely gorgeous. Took the scenic route on the walk from our accommodation to dinner so we could seek out a few of these beautiful art works. Absolutely made me smile. I can’t wait to bring my daughter here to enjoy this lovely town and see these bright and cheery koalas.

Thank you for sharing your experience with our Hello Koalas sculptures. We have just launched our 79th koala called "Winnie the Unicorn", created by local artist Pauline Roods with specialist help from our local fibreglass manufacturer John Belfield and adornments from local brook-maker Thompsons Brushes! Winnie is now resident at our Hello Koalas Gift Shop at Unit 16, 10 Bellbowrie Street in Port Macquarie, a hop, step and a jump from Settlement City. Looking forward to seeing you and your daughter and please pop in to say "hello". And thanks again for your heart-warming review.

Omg what an absolute amazing experience! Just like a treasure hunt for all ages! Absolute beautiful koalas which get you to see all around Port Macquarie and surrounds! The artistry on them is amazing and they all tell a specific story! The amazing woman Margaret who created them was an absolute pleasure to meet who took time out of her weekend to meet us and wow so clever! Thank you so much, I am in love with these koalas!

Thanks for your glowing comments. It's lovely for the Hello Koalas team to receive this feedback. And I personally enjoy the opportunity to meet and chat with people like yourself who enjoy our Hello Koalas. We are not able to remain open every day in our Hello Koalas Gift Shop but we are happy to open by appointment or request if we can do so. We live an hour out of town so a little notice is always appreciated! Looking forward to welcoming you back on your return visit!

A great activity to do with the kids. The koalas are amazing. Great art. It was disappointing that the hello Koalas shop was closed. Very limited hours and not open every day.

Glad you and your family enjoyed the Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail. I'm sorry our Hello Koalas Gift Shop is not open every day (we'd like to be!) but our shop is new and we are still working out the best days and times to open that will suit locals and visitors and letting people know where we are. Unit 16, 10 Bellbowrie Street, off Hastings River Drive is our address but we are not situated at street level so people need to drive a short way into the business park. There is usually plenty of parking right outside our Shop and when we are open we usually place 3 or 4 Hello Koalas sculptures out the front. Outside of our usual hours of opening, we are happy to open up on request via a text or email, it we are able to do so. but as we live out of town, it is not always easy to meet those requests. But we do our best! At present we open 10am to 3pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. During the school holidays we aim to extend our hours of opening. Information is accessible via our website or social media. Thank you for sharing your comments - we really value feedback to enhance the Hello Koalas experience.

What an amazing fun family activity. We searched for as many as we could in one day and found over 40. We wish we would have started this earlier on our holiday. My teenage kids loved not only finding them and ticking them off but the art work and appreciating the effort such a great cause brings to our wonderful native animals. A fun free activity that I highly recommend. Loved it!

Thank you so much for your review. It ticked so many boxes for us. I am sorry we didn't meet personally at our Hello Koalas Memorabilia Shop where we have around 10 Hello Koalas sculptures to say "hello" plus I love meeting people who are locals or visiting Port Macquarie and are interested in the history of the Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail. At this stage we are open three days a week (Tues, Wed and Thurs, 10am to 3pm) but planning to open longer during school holidays. Check the website or our facebook page for further details. And thanks again for your valued comments ..which inspire us to continue our koala conservation and artistic journey.

So delighted to receive your review. Thank you. "Fun" is a key word in our vocabulary along with hearing people getting out and about, discovering Port Macquarie and enjoying our Hello Koalas sculptures by such talented local artists. Our 5th annual Hello Koalas Festival is on 25 and 26 September this year if you are planning another visit to Port Macquarie and come and say hello to me too at our Hello Koalas Shop. I can tell the boys about how we make our koalas and show them the moulds we use in the fibreglass manufacture. A bit like making surfboards!

We were visiting Port Macquarie on holiday & this was one of the highlights! On our last day the weather wasn’t great, so we drove to lots of the koala locations! Such good fun finding them! They are so beautifully designed, which each one being so unique. The shop was great too & we were delighted to add to our numbers as there was lots on show in the shop. We managed to find 42 koalas, if we didn’t have to head home, we would have tried to find them all!!!
