My husband and I did 2 tours in Port Macquarie - "Uncovering Our Past" Walking Tour and "Grave Tales " Walking Tour. Mitch was our guide for both tours and he proved to be a font of knowledge. Both tours followed a very logical sequence and Mitch's animated oratory brought the history of Port Macquarie to life, giving us glimpses of what it would have been like to have been one of the early settlers in the area. We could to recommend these tours highly enough. If you are visiting the area, do yourself a favour and book into one or both of these tours.

Thank you Sylvia for your fantastic review. So happy that you and Kevan enjoyed my tours. Life sure was hard back in Port's early days and it's those hardships, which you glimpsed during my tours, that make us appreciate what we have today. Happy New Year and safe travels.

Despite the weather and COVID restrictions, we spent a lovely morning exploring the many historic sites in central Port Macquarie. This city has done a wonderful job of preserving its heritage by indicating in new buildings what is hidden below - old cottage footings, roadways etc. Their Council Heritage people are to be commended. Mitch is also a great raconteur, telling stories of convicts, ancestors, 19th century life in Port Macquarie, bringing it all to life. The Anglican Church of St Thomas is really fascinating, with many unique features. Highly recommend this tour.

Thanks Judy for your great review. There's a lot to learn about my town's early history and it's there for all to see when you know where to look. Glad that you and Norm took my tour and now appreciate my town's past.

A wonderful morning, and hard to choose one particular part of my Hastings Heritage Tour.. However, the visit to St Thomas's Church was , though fairly hurried due to an impending service, really informative. It's remarkable that a convict built church should still exist, retaining all its original features, including two organs! Mitch Mackay has 40 years experience involved in the archaeology and heritage of the town and is a font of knowledge. Don't miss this Tour!

Thanks Mary for your review. You certainly see a variety of places on this tour one of those being St Thomas' Church (c1824) as you have pointed out. There is definitely a contrast between the two musical instruments you have mentioned - the Seraphine (c1837) and the Walker organ (c1856) with both having provided music to the congregation for many a year. Thanks for recommending my tour.

The tour was eye-opening and gave me a much better understanding of the history of the Port. I had not previously been aware of the two hills - one with St Thomas' Church and one with the former Government House. The twin authorities of Church and State. Mitch is a knowledgeable and personable guide who is himself responsible for so much preservation and interpretation of the historical fabric of the town. A visit to the Port would be incomplete without his first-rate tour.

Thanks Paul for a wonderful review. Great to catch up after all these years. While I knew you had an understanding of Port's convict history I'm glad that you and Rosie left my tour with more historical information and a better understanding of Port's past.

I took the 2.5 hour walking tour, found it interesting and very informative and was fortunate that the weather held (rain was forecast). Mitch is very knowledgeable and patiently explained the history of Port in an engaging way.

Thanks Deepa for your lovely review. The weather was never in doubt.......although the weather forecasters do get it right sometimes. Pleased that you found my tour interesting and informative. Now when you return for a weekend getaway or holiday you at least have a better understanding of the hardships that were once endured in Port before it became a holiday destination.
