Great value for money
Jan. 2021 • Family
At 10 dollars for a family a visit was a great way to fill in a rainy afternoon.
Lots of interesting exhibits, I particularly liked the glassed display of clothing and textiles.

Great way to learn about the history of Port Macquarie
Dec. 2020
We are spending our summer holiday in Port Macquarie and decided due to the rain to spend the morning learning about the heritage of the local area. Such thought has been put into what is on display and it flowed so well. My son also got involved with the "eye spy" game which were spread out throughout. We loved that there were draws and cupboards that could be opened which also kept him intrigued and involved. We also noticed that kind families have donated items so that we can learn about our the past. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would recommend that families visit this lovely museum. An inexpensive outing for families.

Absolutely incredible

This place is absolutely beautiful. A gorgeous touch of history. It was like entering through a door and going back in time. There are so so many details on everything explaining what things are from what time period, you can get lost in there for hours reading up about port macquarie's incredible history. $5 entry! $5 i can not believe it was that cheap to enter. Great for all ages will definitely be back when I'm in the area next. Shout out to all the amazing team there who have obviously worked so hard on putting together such a spectacular display. I had a wonderful time thanks so much.

It’s a bit like the Tardis
Sep. 2020 • Couples
Yes...it’s bigger and a lot better than you think. Just follow the arrows on the floor and the stories continue to unfold. You can easily spend two hours here as there is plenty to see. It’s COVIDSafe with simple check in and good distancing measures in place. A good number of the artifacts have been donated by locals so it represents a good balance of historic interest and local social affairs. The man at the entry was very informative and worth quizzing as you check in. All in all a good afternoon adventure if the weather is too hot or too wet.

Thanks for posting your review. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. As you can tell, our museum has grown over the years and its size and quality is deceptive from the front view. Our team enjoy sharing our local history with visitors. We have a large collection, so our displays are changed regularly to tell different stories. We look forward to welcoming you back next time.

Not to be missed!
Sep. 2020
This museum is staffed by enthusiastic volunteers and cover the Port Macquarie history from convict beginnings to very recent times. It details the early settlement v aboriginal resistance, the later convict era and backs it up with fine photos and articles donated by many people from Port Macquarie.

Great local history museum

This volunteer run museum features a good range of exhibits telling the history of Port Macquarie. It has an array of older and more recent artifacts donated by local people. We liked the thematic approach to the displays and well written captions. Well worth a visit.

Thanks for posting a review. We are very pleased that you liked our thematic approach and captions, as we spend a lot of time researching our collection so that we can share its stories with you. Our limited space means we can only display a small selection of our collection at any given time, so we regularly update and change our exhibits. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are next in Port.

An Excellent Local Museum
Jul. 2020
Visited post COVID lockdown and was very impressed with how the museum has responded to the need for social distancing etc. The exhibits were very informative and provided a very good introduction to the history of the area, including pre-white settlement of the area. They are arranged in a time line through the museum with a very good coverage of the economic history of the area.

Thanks for your review, much appreciated. It has been a challenge to meet COVIDSafe guidelines and ensure we still offer an informative and enjoyable visitor experience. We are taking the health and safety of our visitors and volunteer staff very seriously. Hopefully down the track we will be able to reintroduce hands- on exhibits and to reopen the upper storey exhibits in our historic Store building.
