About
Thomas Wines are one of the Hunter Valley's most highly regarded winemakers, nationally and internationally acclaimed for their exceptional single vineyard semillon and shiraz. "Keep it simple" is our philosophy, producing small parcels of world class, uniquely regional wines from some of the most distinguished sites in the Hunter. Each single vineyard wine showcases its unique signature and personality, and expresses a true sense of place. Kiss shiraz and Braemore semillon sit at the top of an impressive range, many of which have become modern benchmarks for the Hunter Valley. Owner and winemaker Andrew Thomas now has three decades of winemaking experience in the Hunter Valley. It's the no compromise, attention to detail approach to his winemaking that has seen him twice awarded Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year, as well as contributing to an impressive mantle piece of wine show trophies and medals, and enviable critical acclaim.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The lady that looked after us (sorry forget to write down your name) was very good, happy to chat about the wines, which were very nice.
Nice surrounds.
The disappointing thing was that we were charged the tasting fee even though we spent a bit over $300 on their wines.

A really interesting tasting experience where the differences in the wines produced from the grapes grown in different locations and soils was very clearly demonstrated.

This very modern tasting room is located in the same complex as the Brokenback Bar and The Mill restaurant on the corner of Mistletoe Lane and Hermitage Road. This is not a winery. We were advised that Andrew Thomas uses the wine making facilities at James Estate Wines which is further along Hermitage Road, closer to Pokolbin but also nearby some of Andrew's best Semillon vineyard sites.
There were three tasting options from $10 to $30. We chose the Explorer tasting which was for nine wines over 60 minutes for $20 per person.
We tasted a range of Semillons, a Semillon Chardonnay and several Shiraz. All good though the Braemore Semillons were the winners.
Very pleasant tasting area and a lovely hostess (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten) who was very informative - even brought out the bottles of soil - and knowledgeable.

This place was recommended by another winery. ‘Thommo’ is a master wine maker and we did the $20 per head, 60 minute tasting experience. Loved the variety and high standard of both Semillon and Shiraz and the attention and detail provided to make the experience a memorable one.

The winery has a focus on Semillon and Shiraz, so their wines are very special, I particularly loved the fresh citrus of the young Semillon, synergy and 6 degrees

This is a lovely and relaxed wine tasting experience with very friendly informative passionate staff . The tasting style reminds of McLaren Vale SA with its unpretentious style and excellent wines . The view from the cellar door is stunning and it is well worth a visit .

Visited this cellar door due to its close proximity to where we were staying and I am so glad we did! The Semillon and Shiraz tasting was a great introduction to the diversity of these 2 varieties. Our host was informative and demonstrated his real passion for wine. Well worth a visit!

Wines remain excellent though less on offer compared to last year (or so it seemed to us). They confirmed we QR coded in but only half the staff wore masks.

Hi
Thanks for visiting & your review. We do take COVID & safety very seriously, we have a Staff member that is exempt from wearing a mask which may explain why everyone did not have one on.
We look froward to your next visit, we'd suggest The Journey tasting experience if you'd like to taste the full range on your next visit.
Cheers

Hat off to Andrew Thomas for an amazing wine & food pairing at Nagisa Japanese restaurant as part of Newcastle Food month. Throughly enjoyed the 1st bracket of Deja Vu, Sweetwater & The Cote but the second bracket of the 2018 & 2010 Kiss was truly special & amazing! Classic Hunter Valley winemaker & winery. Throughly recommend a visit!
