About
Thomas Wines are one of the Hunter Valley's most highly regarded winemakers, nationally and internationally acclaimed for their exceptional single vineyard semillon and shiraz. "Keep it simple" is our philosophy, producing small parcels of world class, uniquely regional wines from some of the most distinguished sites in the Hunter. Each single vineyard wine showcases its unique signature and personality, and expresses a true sense of place. Kiss shiraz and Braemore semillon sit at the top of an impressive range, many of which have become modern benchmarks for the Hunter Valley. Owner and winemaker Andrew Thomas now has three decades of winemaking experience in the Hunter Valley. It's the no compromise, attention to detail approach to his winemaking that has seen him twice awarded Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year, as well as contributing to an impressive mantle piece of wine show trophies and medals, and enviable critical acclaim.

    Nice wines
The lady that looked after us (sorry forget to write down your name) was very good, happy to chat about the wines, which were very nice. Nice surrounds. The disappointing thing was that we were charged the tasting fee even though we spent a bit over $300 on their wines.

Wonderful Wine Selection - Great Experience
Wonderful selection of wines to taste in a relaxed and comfortable setting with lovely views. Belinda was an excellent host and took us through the selection with a lot of interesting details around the background of the winery and the grapes used for each wine. We really enjoyed tasting the wines in pairs which was different to any of the other vineyards. Loved the wines with special mention to the Six Degrees Semillon (very drinkable and lower alcohol content) but our favourite was the Dam Block Shiraz. Awesome!! Highly recommended and definitely worth a visit.

    A nice morning
There’s so many wineries to chose from in the Hunter, but we chose to come here simply because of the name (having not known much about wines!) We have a son Thomas and we drove past the building and it was beautiful - so it was a yes to our list. We did a tasting the next morning and Karen our host was friendly and informative. We enjoyed chatting to her about the wines, the region and our trip. The location of the building is very pretty and the wines were lovely. We were pleased to have stopped here.

Thomas wines had a classy cellar door that will impress the fussiest of wine novices. The name card was a nice touch!

Niko our server did a fantastic job of making us feel comfortable and welcome.

He went through the single Vineyard, blends and signatures like a breeze.

Ended up buying the Kiss, no commentary required for that one. And the 2 of a kind white.

Always my favourite cellar door to come to in the Hunter Valley, Thomas Wines always delivers. Nico is not only knowledgeable about the Semillon and Shiraz available at the cellar door but is super friendly and happy to take the time explaining all things Thomas Wines. If you want to try some true Hunter styles, a trip to this cellar door will not disappoint! It may even become a favourite for you too!

Had a wonderful tasting and experience at Thomas Wines. Only tasted a few but it was clear after several other wineries that day that the few from Thomas Wines were much better than most others. Love how they specialise in just two types of grapes and do them very well. Nico’s descriptions and insights were very on point. If you’re helped by Nico know that you’re in very good hands.

I also noticed on the back of each label is written what refining agents were used for that bottle - such as milk or egg shells. As a vegan, I greatly appreciated this transparency. It is the first of this kind I have ever seen. I hope other wineries take Thomas Wine’s lead in sharing this type of info right on the label so customers needn’t go searching it out online or asking staff or waiters in restaurants who may or may not actually know. Five stars!

My husband and I have been travelling to the Hunter for a number of years and although being fans of Thomas Wines, this was our first visit to the cellar door.

Nico was a wonderful host - knowledgeable, informative and very welcoming.

The wine was impressive and we look forward to consuming our purchases and returning to collect some more.

Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

The structured tasting , which is now seen everywhere in wineries, needed to be booked ahead and planned . Qe were happy to prepay the tasting fee for the premium level , which potentially allowed us to taste up to 17 wines. The tasting notes were excellent and comprehensive enough for our needs . The tasting guide , whom we had met previously was again excellent , French , charming and very engaging . We were taken through the list , and issues such as smoke taint and climate change were explained as they affect the current vintqge . The surrounding area is attractive with expansive views of the valley . The owner Andrew was around and was happy to have a quick chat . A very enjoyable experience and one we will repeat when we visit the Hunter Valley again.

Best tasting experience of our trip. Excellent staff and tasting enhanced by them showing us the soil types that the wines offered for tasting were grown from. Wines we tasted were excellent overall. We also got to taste a 2002 wine. We are definitely planning on coming again next trip to the Hunter.

This place was recommended by another winery. ‘Thommo’ is a master wine maker and we did the $20 per head, 60 minute tasting experience. Loved the variety and high standard of both Semillon and Shiraz and the attention and detail provided to make the experience a memorable one.

Visited this cellar door due to its close proximity to where we were staying and I am so glad we did! The Semillon and Shiraz tasting was a great introduction to the diversity of these 2 varieties. Our host was informative and demonstrated his real passion for wine. Well worth a visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed the extended wine tasting. Nico was fantastic describing the wines. He made it a fun and an educational experience. We asked lots of questions which were answered with a friendly smile.
