About
Poole’s Rock was established in 1988 by the late David Clarke OAM. The 23-ha Poole’s Rock vineyard at Broke was the starting point, followed by the acquisition in 2002 of the 74-ha Glen Elgin Estate at Pokolbin. Upon his passing, the brands, vineyards and winery in Pokolbin were acquired by the Agnew family, who also own the neighbouring vineyard, Audrey Wilkinson, and have been established in the wine industry since 2004. All brands under the Agnew Wines umbrella have kept separate identities, however areas of consolidation include management, sales, marketing and viticulture, and there has also been significant investment in upgrades to their winery.

Amazing wide selection of wines with impressive flavours that suited every taste.
Our cellar door experience was miraculous and the attendee Julia had immense knowledge on all the wines and ensured to cater to our every need.

I have been a Pooles Rock Wine Club Member for many years, so together with my Husband & 2 friends we visited Poole's Rock Winery on our recent trip to the Hunter Vally for a Members Winery Tour followed by wine tasting and cheese platter. We were greeted by the Cellar Door Manager Larna-Rose Staley who was exceptional in her knowledge of the wines and winery operations and we could not speak more highly of the time she spent with us last Thursday morning. As the Wine Club Manager Daniel was away, Larna-Rose stepped in to give us the tour and we greatly appreciated the time she took to allow us to enjoy our tasting while taking in the surrounding vineyards. Thank you again Larna-Rose and also Daniel for organising this tour. We had a wonderful morning and would highly recommend anyone to visit and enjoy your superb wines. Kerrie Urquhart

We had a great time today starting our wine tour. The sommelier was very informative about not only the grapes and wines, but also the history of the area. Beautiful view from the tasting deck as well.

Semillon, Chardonnay & Shiraz are the three main grapes of the Hunter Region, you will taste all 3 at this experience with a food pairing of decadent cheese and even chocolate
THE EXPERIENCE:
Semillon was first up, we tasted both a 2018 Single Barrel & the 2019 Premiere. It was so interesting to compare the different tastes of each. This was paired with a herb fromage!
Next up was Chardonnay. Now, before Hunter Valley I was not a Chardonnay fan at all and this wine tasting as good as it does was the real discovery of the Hunter Valley to me. The Hunter Region Chardonnay just hits different.
We compared the 2022 Premiere & the 2019 Single Barrel and this was paired with a duetto of Gorgonzola and mascarpone with fig chutney on top!
H E A V E N
Last but not least we moved onto Rosé & Shiraz paired with vintage cheddar & curvée chocolate. The 2019 People’s Post Office Shiraz really stood out with red cherry & cranberry aromas. The protein in the cheddar matches the soft tannins allowing the fruit profile to take over your senses!
For anyone who’s not too familiar with wine + food pairing. Basically wine & cheese pair perfectly because the saltiness of the cheese brings out the sweetness in the wine. It’s amazing how the cheeses bring out/compliment different flavours in the wines.
We bought a bottle of the Single Barrel to take home for a special occasion as it was divine. Regretting not picking up the Post Office Shiraz too now that I’m writing this!
What an experience. I can’t recommend this enough. Also, the best part? It’s so affordable. $40 pp.

Great wine tasting in an amazing location. We had a fantastic afternoon. Enthusiastic host! I could have stayed all day. Sadly we had to leave to the next destination. Highly recommended.
