- GillS495Prestbury, United Kingdom90 contributionsGreat winery and lovely winesGreat wine and cheese tasting at Scarborough. A lovely lady who hosted us and was so knowledgeable, accommodating and helpful . Really enjoyed the experience. And more so the fact that the wines are served in 100 ml individual bottlesThank you for your fabulous review of your recent trip to see us, it is always so wonderful to hear about the great experiences our guests have. - Peter R10 contributionsWine tasting at Scarborough vineyard.Always a pleasant experience to go to Scarborough for a wine tasting. You have your own table with the wines set out with some cheese and biscuits to go with the wines. They give you a detailed description of the wines and the best time to drink them. For those who've not been to Scarborough, it is on a hill, with lovely views over the vineyards.Thank you for visiting us and for leaving such a lovely review of your time with us at Scarborough. - Greg P1 contributionPremium Chardonnay experienceQuality chardonnay was what we were seeking and that was what we found at Scarborough Wine Co. We tasted a range of Scarborough chardonnays with cheese accompaniment which added to the flavour of the wines. Our host, Danielle, made us feel very welcome and provided detailed backgrounds for each wine tasted which enhanced the overall experience. Scarborough yellow label provided a great balance of fruit, oak with a smooth texture but our preferred pick was the 'The Obsessive' Chardonnay which to our palate is Australia's premium Chardonnay. We'll definitely be back.Thank you for your fabulous review of your recent trip to see us, it is always so wonderful to hear about the great experiences our guests have. - geoffreyr758Lake Cathie, Australia136 contributionsChardonnay at its best.We booked a Chardonnay tasting some time ago. We were shown to a separate tasting room where the wines were already waiting in their respective glasses. Lil looked after us very well, describing the individual Chardonny blends and vintages. She gave us lots of time to discuss the wines between ourselves and then chatted about our findings. We had some tasty cheese and biscuits to accompany the tasting. Overall, it was an excellent, relaxed tasting that we both thoroughly enjoyed. There was no pressure to buy wine, but the wines were first class, so why not?! - John2320Rothbury, Australia126 contributionsScarborough at it's bestArrived for our booking at 1pm only to find that I had booked the wrong date, however the girls were more than happy to accommodate us and wewere shown our table after a short five minute wait. One of the great things about Scarborough is what they learned from Covid and that is by providing our selected wines in small bottles that could be shared if required and whats left could be brought home. Our family have been fans of Scarborough for years now and they never fail when it comes to producing fantastic Chardonnays. My big surprise this time was the amazing taste from the Semillon definetly worth going just for tasting this drop. Overall Scarborough is worth the trip to the Hunter alone, you have amazing staff, fantastic cheese boards and most importantly the finest whites in the Hunter.Thank you for your fabulous review of your recent trip to see us, it is always so wonderful to hear about the great experiences our guests have. Its located in the former family home of the family wine maker and in beautiful conditiion with great views. The staff were incredible, friendly and information. They do there tastings differently to other p[laces. The wines are all presented and ready when you arrive so you can taste at your own pace. No waiting in between tastes. I hadely plate of cheeses, crackers etc with my wine. The wine was fantastic. Its probably ther best wine tasting experience I had in The Hunter Valley.Thank you for your fabulous review of your recent trip to see us, it is always so wonderful to hear about the great experiences our guests have. We got a private room with amazing views. Scarborough now offers a non- alcoholic tasting option that was great and help include members of my family that do not drink wine. This is second time here and will keep coming back, beautiful place, wonderful service and great wine.Thank you for visiting us and for leaving such a lovely review of your time with us at Scarborough. We had an enjoyable time at Scarborough with a group of 7 people on Sunday 5th March 2023. The staff set out a tremendous line up of 7 wines to try and catered to our individual needs. It was in a lovely room overlooking the vineyards and the wines were served with a delicious assortment of cheeses.
The Scarborough wines are well priced, especially the Yellow Label Chardonnay, which is a bargain for the quality.

We went with six friends and enjoyed a lovely afternoon. We all received a generous cheese plate to accompany our wines. The tasting room has beautiful views over the vines and the Hunter Valley. The wines were first class and included a number of varieties. The tasting included six wines but we were invited to taste other wines on the list…. And we did!
Eve our hostess was friendly, informative and made us feel very welcome.
Would recommend joining the wine club as tastings are free for members and two guests and wines prices are well discounted.
Our friends were equally impressed! Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Took my parents here as a surprise for their anniversary and they both said they had a wonderful time.
We were all instantly in love with the cozy room the tasting was in. Had gorgeous wooden furniture and a large window that showcased the stunning view of their vineyards and rolling hills in the background.
They did the 1 hour tasting experience and tasted the obsessive range and the classic range. They thoroughly enjoyed tasting and learning about the wines from the host.
The hospitality was amazing and it made for a relaxing afternoon.
Me and my sister also tried the buds and beads silver needles and we both enjoyed it. Was surprisingly nice.
Such a beautiful location and a uniquely wonderful experience, will definitely be coming back here.

We had pre-booked a wine tasting experience which was a total of $360 for 8 people. We were excited because we had heard good things and had high expectations to drink amazing wine because this was the most expensive booking we had made however upon arrival we were greeted with a not so pleasant welcoming from one of their staff members.
We were told quite bluntly that we were not speaking in a respectable manner based on the "language" she had over heard from conversations amongst some of the other couples. She then started to explain the reason why we could not enter was because of RSA laws? This just made us feel this was an excuse for whatever reason she had behind not wanting us inside the winery.
We did not feel comfortable to stay so we spoke to another staff member who was lovely and was able to cancel our booking. It was a shame because there was a large group that had just finished their wine tasting and they looked like they were having so much fun and having a great time.
Overall we were made to feel embarrassed even though we had done nothing wrong. The staff member who greeted us came across very rude and abrupt, not somebody who should be greeting customers.
I believe there are so many ways a situation can be handled and the way this staff member attacked us was not okay.
They should understand that their words and actions have an impact on somebody's day and trip.
Overall this winery has beautiful views and I am sure great wine however we will never be going there again because of this experience.

Hi alexisa310,
I do agree that it was a shame that you and your group were unable to attend your tasting as booked, we generally as rule don't turn away customers when they arrive. However, there are a few reasons that we won't seat people. If guests are swearing or using "language" that we find unacceptable (either amongst themselves or directed at staff, both of which were the case here) our staff we will take a moment to assess whether we will be putting our staff in a situation that could possibly escalate due to alcohol being served. On this occasion our Cellar Door Operations Manager made the call that seating your group and serving alcohol would go against RSA standards which we follow as a licensed premises.
We go to great lengths to ensure that the tasting experience is a positive one for all our guests (including those who may be seated around you) as well as positive experience for the staff looking after you, as we do realise how words and actions can have an affect on someone's day. With this in mind, our Cellar Door Operations Manager fully refunded your tasting fees and refused entry.
It is a regretful situation that you were unable to attend your tasting and also that you have left a poor review. Our staff were simply doing their jobs and upholding a code of conduct in regards to appropriate behaviour and the service of alcohol.
Kind Regards
Sally Scarborough

It's hard to pick a favourite winery, but this place is one of the best and absolutely not to be missed.
The views are some of the best in the valley. The cellar door is impeccably presented and the tastings are very professional. The cheese plate with he wine makes it a very well rounded experience.
Please don't miss Scarborough on your wine trail. They offer a good range and variety of wines. The first to do pinot noir in the Hunter. The Obsessive wine label wines are worth the drive alone.
Enjoy!

Great Cellar door and tasting experience at this family owned winery. Scarborough produces top flight wines at fair prices.
Our visit was hosted in a nice room and included 6 wines plus a couple of bonus ones and a small cheese plate to cleanse the palate between wines.
The location is superb as well with good views over the vineyard and surrounding district.
Highly recommended.

The best cellar door experience in the Hunter Valley. After a very friendly welcome, we were shown to our elegant table, with sweeping views of the vineyard, for our wine tasting. Our attentive wine expert presented the wines with great knowledge and professionalism, whilst making us feel completely at ease. Additional to the wine, we were treated to a very generous cheese and fruit platter with produce from local cheese makers. Our family from Cairns loved their first wine tasting experience, and we’re so glad we picked Scarborough. We can highly recommend the semillon and Chardonnay.

We were served by Racquel. Her knowledge of the wines was impressive but the whole process was drawn out for far too long between tastings. Racquel also forgot about us and instead was packing orders at her own admission. We ended up just getting up and paying for the tastings instead of purchasing wines. Disappointed.

My wife and I had not been to the Hunter for a few years, we decided on the half hour wine tasting (6 Chardonnays) booked via the Scarborough winery web site.
The wines were excellent, Scarborough is rightly renowned for its chardonnay, we were impressed with the selection sampled and the chesses provided to accompany the wines. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Lovely people, large amount of cheese. Great wines to taste.
Have been a member for many years but haven’t been to the cellar door for tasting for 3 years. Went with a group of 6 for my husbands birthday but had to pay $40 for two tastings (4 were free). If I compare this to Peppertree and first Creek who had no limits on numbers, provided many more wines to taste and cheese for 6 of us free of charge (for members) Scarborough we’re the worst performers- the rest also had a dedicated person to take us through the wines and spent more time with us. It would be better to have a a set amount of tasting a per year e.g 8/10 free tastings per year. I love Scarborough wines but disappointed on this experience.

Hi Cath,
Thank you for taking the time to review your tasting with us. I am sorry that you were disappointed to have to pay for 2 of your guests, every time you visit you and 3 guests will receive a complimentary tasting, so you can visit us as often as you would like. Unfortunately we are unable to have 1 server per group in busy periods and weekends but we do try our hardest to ensure that you have personalised service regardless. We look forward to seeing you when you next visit us. Cheers Sally Scarborough

What's the difference between the Gillards vs Hermitage? Anyone have a preference?
A small group of out of towners are visiting the HV for one day and have Scarborough on our list.
Written 28 June 2017
Gillard is the original, very picturesque and far more intimate. Hermitage is newer and built far more for the tourist trade. Same style of tasting experience but go for Gillards......enjoy
