- Mark&RosaKingston, Australia545 contributionsVery enjoyable tasting experienceWe were looked after by Geoff/Jeff (?) and he was excellent, as were the wines. Our favourites were, well, all of them. We also has some light lunch, which was also really, really good, especially the calamari. A must visit cellar door when you are in the Hunter.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- Eugene L230 contributionsVery lovely tasting room which resembles a wedding reception.Service was very good. Wines were very nice. Felt like we were in a wedding reception. Obviously Leogate Estate is a Hunter destination wedding venue. Lovely tables and white wicker chairs. We did buy wine here.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 January 2024
- Russell J28 contributionsTasting experienceI wish to acknowledge Walter and Lisa for their genuine hospitality. It was my birthday and, in transit from Brisbane, I decided on a 'Semillon' tasting. The wines at Leogate are exceptional, and I now understand why Halliday shortlisted the winery this year, in the Wine Companion Awards. In closing the Members Bottle Price is extremely attractive!Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 12 February 2024
- Robyn PCairns, Australia6 contributionsA must do !! Definitely visit! We stayed at Leogate in one of their one bed cabins. The cabins are beautifully appointed with lovely views over the vineyards. Included in our stay was a free wine tasting, superb 3 course dinner in their onsite restaurant, 7 bottles of free wine, free mini bar and the breakfast package. We sat on the cabin's verandah for breakfast and listened to the bellbirds in the trees. All staff were very friendly and hospitable. We will definitely visit again. Would recommend it to others.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 March 2024
- Jason ANorth Sydney, Australia493 contributionsPerfect lunch and wine tasting!Leogate is a must do for delicious food and wine tasting at a very reasonable price. Your hosts are knowledgeable not only about the vineyards but also the process. Shout out to Walter for his calm and well explained history of the vine. The Lasagne is amazing! Well doneVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 April 2024
- kathy s2 contributionsA beautiful wineryWhat an absolutely lovely winery. Geoff our host was very knowledgeable and offering a great selection of wines. The wines are beautiful - even my hubby who isn't a wine drinker, loved every wine sampled. Oh and the most comfy chairs I've sat on all day!!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 April 2024
- Mij DorianSunshine Coast, Australia540 contributionsSpellbinding FlavorsI think Chef Edwin is a mad scientist in Leogate's kitchen! His crispy skinned Tasmanian trout is alchemy - a shimmering bronze scale armor guarding flaky treasures. But the real magic? Those black onyx beef cheeks! One bite and you're teleported to a medieval banquet hall, gobbling up molten morsels fit for a king. Sorcery on a plate! A special mention for Zoe, our waitress, who was helpful & a great personality đź‘ŤVisited May 2024Travelled on businessWritten 17 May 2024

We have purchased quality Leogate wines before, usually via Mark the winemaker at the annual Hunter Wine Show, but stupidly, we have never visited the winery. Fortunately, we booked for wine tasting (thanks Covid). The fire was on, and it was the best afternoon. Our host, Caitlyn, provided exemplary service and quality information regarding the wines and the vines. It was clear from her detail that she gets her hands dirty in the business. Excellent quality and value wines across the whole grape variety and pricing range. We loved it so much, we bought the company (LOL). No, we joined as wine club members. Whether it is Leogate, or any other winery in the Hunter, I feel we all need to be just a little more understanding in these times, that sometimes we can't just rock-in without booking, and also that the whole process is going to a little less laid-back. However, like at Leogate, this doesn't change the quality of the wines or the people. PS. Again, stupidly, we did not pre-book for The Gates restaurant, which was recommended to us by other traders in the Valley.

Great food and wine, amazing service. The restaurant has a lovely outlook. The beef was outstanding BUT the dessert was the standout - flavours, textures and presentation. The best we have had in a long time. Would definitely recommend. We will be back again.

From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated like royalty. Firstly by the staff in wine tasting. The young man knew his stuff and was a great conversationalist. We were a tad early for Mother’s Day lunch and got treated to a red wine tasting. Following that we went into the dining room for an out of this world dining experience. John was our waiter. He is hands down the loveliest man and made our experience magical. He made my 14 year old son a mocktail and elevated his dining experience by treating him just as good as the adults. The steak is benchmark. Recommend anyone adding this place to your bucket list.

It was our first time at Leogate and we loved every second of it! The wines were delicious, there was hardly anything we didn’t enjoy. The French gentleman (I didn’t catch his name) was exceptional and highly knowledgeable. He was attentive and kind and answered any question we had about the wines or the vineyard.
The wines were at an affordable price point in comparison to some of the other wineries in the region without losing out on quality.
Would highly recommend Leogate!

My wife and I were greeted by Irish who hosted our wine tasting. She was informative and charming. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the nuances of the various wines on offer and her insight. Looking forward to coming back to the restaurant again also. We have watched this Estate grow from the early days and congrats to Bill and Vickie on building your vision so well.

Such a lovely afternoon tasting wines here. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves (benefits of coming mid week) and our host (so sorry, we’ve forgotten his name but he was working on 25th January in the day) was so attentive and welcoming. He gave us a really personal experience- asking for our tastes and choosing the wines he thought we would most enjoy. Good value and delicious wines.

Beuatiful setting, garden, staff, wedding reception area, food. Not too far from Hunter Valley Gardens or accommodation. Restaurant on-site looked wonderful too or maybe just a wine tasting

Good Afternoon Jackie,
Thank you for taking the time to review us on your recent experience as a guests at wedding hosted here at Leogate. We are very lucky to be positioned at the foothills of the Brokenback ranges. It makes for a lovely setting for a wedding. I hope we can welcome you back to The Gates Restaurant to enjoy a lunch or dinner with us in the near future.

We are local people to the Hunter Valley and visited Leogate over the weekend. Dylan was our host and we could not have had a more lovely experience. Beautiful location, great wines and a wonderful host. We joined their wine club on the day and will be visiting again soon.

If your thinking of visiting the Hunter Valley for a short break you have to go to Leogate, amazing service , beautiful location with the most incredible wine. The staff take the time to give you an experience not just a tasting and the oysters served by the chef to your table is superb... love this place will be back

You will receive 30% off cellar door prices. And can order your preferred wine as a club member.
Written 5 September 2017
sorry to ask but if you only liked one wine why would you become a member???
Written 5 September 2017
You can buy some Hunter Valley wines at a retail shop.
However a lot of wines you may only get from some wineries and you can save more by joining the cellar door wine club which we have done.
Read what they are offering and see if it is good for yourself or not.
Good luck and enjoy.
