About
Tamburlaine was established in 1966. In 1985 the Hunter winery was purchased by a small group of friends and relatives led by Managing Director and Chief Winemaker, Mark Davidson. Mark has built his long-term winemaking philosophy around Contemporary Organic practices in the vineyard and the winery. After challenging years of research and development, we have become one of Australia’s largest producers of organic wines with vineyards in the Hunter Valley and Orange region. Named after Christopher Marlowe's famous play and character ‘Tamburlaine the Great’, we work to lead the way with our Contemporary Organics vision, successfully producing award-winning organic, vegan-friendly, low sulphur and no added sulphur wines.

    An enjoyable experience
Our host (Jarryd) made us feel accommodated for and well taken of. With a spontaneous look around the vineyard, he went out of his way to make it a very enjoyable experience for all of us. Would go again and recommend to anyone interested in taking a wine tour!

A culinary symphony of organic elegance!
A Culinary Symphony of Organic Elegance – A Review of Tamburlaine … The tasting journey unveils a diverse palette of varietals, each expressing a unique terroir. Notably, the meticulous production process pays homage to allergen-sensitive patrons, ensuring a meticulous approach that eliminates common allergens without compromising the depth and complexity of the wines. The staff's commitment to hospitality is equally commendable. Their knowledge of the wines, coupled with an understanding of allergen considerations, creates a welcoming environment for all patrons. Whether navigating a red or white flight, the staff is adept at guiding guests through a personalized tasting experience, making it inclusive for those with specific dietary needs. Furthermore, Tamburlaine offers an inviting ambiance that complements the sophistication of its wines. The vineyard's commitment to sustainability extends beyond the vine rows, with eco-friendly practices evident throughout the estate. The result is a sensory journey that transcends the glass, encompassing the surrounding environment.

    A lovely winery
We were recommended this winery. We arrived later in the afternoon, after a day of travelling. The location, building and setting is really beautiful. Adrian our host was friendly and helpful. He talked us through the wines and answered all my husbands questions. The wine was lovely!

We had one of the best wine tasting experiences ever at Tamburlaine! Tom was our host and from start to finish the experience was perfect - Tom was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines, had many older museum wines for us to try as well as the current release vintage, and great cheese platters to accompany the wine. We have been members of Tamburlaine wine club for over twenty years, and continue to be very impressed with the customer service at Tamburlaine. We brought friends with us to the wine tasting and they immediately joined the wine club as well! Thanks again for a great tasting experience - we will be back soon!!

Visiting Tamburlaine Organic wines is a must. They were Covid friendly, polite and very professional. We sat in our own private room for tasting and our Sommelier was a young gentleman who was so enthusiastic, entertaining and knowledgeable about wine. We bought a fair few wines and actually bought a bottle of Tamburlaine Merlot at Blaxlands that night. It was the next level sensational and had minimal preservatives which I was thankful for the next day. Thank you Tamburlaine, I will be back.

Visited as stop 2 of a 4 stop trip to the Hunter and didn’t even bother with the last 2 because they were so good. Staff were knowledgeable and funny and made you feel like part of the family. I would rate this place 10 stars if I could. It’s my second visit and they just keep getting better. Bought a few case including the Flat bottles which are 10c recyclable (genius)!!!!!

Tambourlaine is organic wine at its best and the wine is incredible and yet the price remains reasonable. Thanks Marcus for making it a great experience. Will be coming back with friends and family for sure.

Can’t speak highly enough of this winery.

Really disappointed with our visit to Tamburlaine. We have been going to this vineyard for many years but this visit will be our last time. We were made to feel like we were an inconvenience and they couldn't get us out of there fast enough. The lady who served us was only intersted in making sure that we paid our $!0 tasting fee. Our friends had never been to this vineyard before but getting information from the staff about their organic wines was like pulling teeth.

We had a really disappointing experience

Had a wondering tasting experience at Tamburlaine. It was very casual, just standing at the bar and Lilly who served us was great! They don’t charge a tasting fee (for reserve wines and cheese etc there is a fee). We were so happy with the wines we were offered, we tried plenty and nothing was too much trouble. Great deals too when buying a dozen +.
Was probably our favourite tasting experience while we were in the Hunter. Very authentic and friendly staff. Thank you, we’ll be back.

We booked a wine tasting experience at this winery which focuses on organic wines.
Our host was very well informed in the wines and with innuendos made our hour long experience well worthwhile.
The offers on sales were very tempting which we succumbed to and various boxes were purchased for future consumption.
We would, definitely, visit again.

Stumbled across their new shopfront in Millthorpe (near Orange) during a visit so called in for a tasting. Tried almost all the shiraz varieties & loved them all. Walked out with a number of bottles and also some other local jam & marmalade products. Also, a nice environment & friendly knowledgeable staff. As the 2019 shiraz was only available at the Pokolbin Hunter Valley cellar door we called in there in our way home. The 2019 was a bit raw tasting for me, too rich in tanins, but it was good to get a taste before ordering a lot of bottles online that don’t then hit the mark. Well worth a try before you buy.

So the story goes further back than expected for us.
After a very turbulent start to the day, waiting for 1.5 hours for a taxi and then having to walk upwards of 3 km, we found ourselves at this fantastic wine spot.
We were quickly sat down in our group of six with our master of wine, Lily. Lilly shared a fantastic insight into the wines and also some hilarious stories of people before us. Great service does exist, Lilly you made our day.
If you want to try some wines then stop of here, you’ll love it.
Best,
Alex & Co

We visited Tamburlaine after a recommendation and it was well worth the visit. We were served by Lily for our tasting and she ensured a fun and enjoyable. The wines were also very good with a good range of both whites and red. I would highly recommend a stop at this vineyard!!
