About
Operating as a Cellar Door we’ve created an energetic and sociable environment to enjoy our wines. Whilst our wines are avant-garde we still only use grapes from our own family estate in Pokolbin and believe in a 100% Hunter Valley production. Our approach to wine tasting incorporates the food and wine lifestyle, choose from our salumi and cheese list to make a plate to accompany your tasting.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a must visit on our Wine Tour, and it did not disappoint! It was a lovely little cellar door located in an old converted chapel, with nice views and friendly staff. The charcuterie was amazing, and paired nicely with the wines. Would recommend if you’re in the Hunter Valley!

Limited dining options but meat & cheese platter was nice - not local to the Hunter. Wines ok - liked Prosecco best & some naturals

From the outside you wouldn’t expect to walk into a beautiful well kept chapel. The experience was lovely and did not feel rushed at all! We ended up getting the cheese platter and WOW, it was divine. The honeycomb with fruits and delicious cheese and meats paired nicely with the tasting wines.
A smaller venue but it feels more authentic, definitely a spot not to miss on your Hunter Valley Wine Tour!

Small grower producer. All their grapes are from the hunter valley region (many of the larger places don’t do this). Set in an old church which is charming. Unfortunately the person serving was also making pickles so the smell of vinegar was rather overpowering with the wine tasting - this is the main reason for the low rating. I could hardly smell the wine because of this, and afterwards our clothes stunk of vinegar! Also, the whole redeemable wine tasting was rather unclear.

Poor customer door greeter. We were very excited to visit Ushers though the young lady attendant left a bitter taste with us. She was rude. We left Ushers and decided not to go back because of this service.

Had really high hopes for this winery but sadly was a massive let down. The location is stunning but we were seated at the uncomfortable bar when tables were available and were partially ignored. Tasting presentations were swapped between staff members making it kind of abrupt and not at all personable nor relaxing. Staff didn’t seem to know much about wine and appeared to be talking through a mental check list - super disappointing. The platters looked amazing so maybe if we’d had one it would have made the experience more enjoyable. Would recommend giving this one a skip as the $10 tasting fee isn’t worth it unfortunately.

Stunning setting, beautiful building full of character, friendly, knowledgeable guide truly and justifiably proud of the wines he poured. There was not one wine we didn’t like, and my daughter and I have very different tastes. Natural wines were a revelation! I could’ve happily filled my suitcase. Would have tried the salami and cheeses but was a bit early in the day. So very different from the sister winery experience! Heartily recommend this winery, it’s a gem!

Had great experiences here in the past which is why our recent visit was so disappointing.
The building and view are still idyllic, but it just seems the staff are not geared for a tourist destination. We were met by a scruffy guy, who wasn't particularly welcoming in looking for our booking.
Maybe I read that wrong. Oh no, he then proceeds to do our wine tasting with a monotone drone with absolutely no charisma.
Sounds mean, but I just don't think this is his calling!
And the platter is massively overpriced for what it is. I would do some research and look for a smaller winery. Usher has lost its charm!

Wine snobs may be put off by the trendy nature of the people poring the wine, however our host who did appear like he’d just walked off a building site, was one of the most engaging and knowledgeable people we’ve spoken to on this trip. His knowledge of the wine he was poring, as well as being the first person to recommend other wine producers in the region according to our tastes, made this a change from the rest of our visits so far.
The location is a converted church and the specialty is cheese / meet boards, paired with hip modern wine.
The first wine which was described as smelling god dam awful, was pretty accurate, but they improved from there on in. The entry level Chardonnay and the Shiraz-Pinot blend stood out.
The reserve Shiraz, which apparently pairs well with a hot bath and Marvin Gaye, was the best wine of the day.
