This vineyard was established in 1985 and is therefore one of the oldest cool climate vineyards in Orange. The vineyard sits at 890 metres, lower in altitude than a number of the other vineyards in the area, and is located on basalt soils, again different to many of the other vineyards in the area which are located on volcanic soils. It is the first winery that you see as you head into Orange from Bathurst.

Our very experienced, knowledgeable and direct host, Cellar Door Manager Sue, spent some time informing us of the history of the vineyard and the wines that were produced - many of which were beautifully displayed in the cellar door space. Many of the wines, Sue advised, would not be seen in Australian liquor stores as the winery has a large export market.

The winery has three separate ranges of wines from the Highland Heritage and Generations ranges to the premium Patrono Series as well as a number of dessert and fortified wines.

Tastings were $5 a head for 5 wines although we ended up tasting more than that. We started with a flight of 5 Rieslings from 2012 to 2021 which were all priced at $29 a bottle. We also tasted several Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, a shiraz and a dessert wine. We enjoyed a good number of the wines we tasted and really appreciated he flight tastin of the Rieslings.

Worth a visit.

Highland Heritage Cellar Door is elevated from the roadway, so you get a great view of the vineyard and surrounding countryside. Walking in, oe is struck by the large number of bottles displayed for sale at various prices; moderate, higher and highest. On my visit the attendant/sommelier was polite, friendly, knowledgeable and charming. She took the time to explain about the wines and the vineyard, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, I am at the moment enjoying a HH Estate, Mount Canobolas, Nikki D Riesling, and I am pleased to say it's an absolute delight. I can highly recommend a visit, and to linger, and purchase some exquisite wine.

We visited the winery today and was astounded at the rudeness of what I presume was the manager of the business.
The sign on the gate said the cellar door was open from today. we drove up and followed the signs to the cellar door. We walked through the open door and there were two people serving behind the bar area who ignored us. As I turned to pick up a business card a person appeared and said to us very curtly "the cellar door isn't open today". at which point she started pushing me back towards the door by my elbow. I said to her, "that's fine, you don't need to push me out". at that point she has realised what she had done and said to us" there are another 43 wineries open, you can come back to us tomorrow". She said you can go to one of them, at which point she closed the door on us.

A bit stunned by all of this, we left, offended and despondent at what we thought was going to be a good experience given the amazing landscape outside.
We are members of a number of wineries around NSW and have never, ever been treated in this way.
Ok, maybe the Cellar door was closed, but it would be opportune to put some signage up at the gate or at least the door, or at the very least have someone who will treat potential customers in a respectful manner. Not a great reflection of the business, needless to say we have a sour taste in our mouth from this winery.

Visiting from the Hunter Valley we like our food and wine. Upon arrival we were greeted by Sam the miniature poodle and hosted by his new owner, Sue. The tasting experience was informative and tailored to our preferred tastes. Whilst the wines are different to the Hunter, we still bought several that we liked. They have a good range to choose from so you'll have a good chance of finding something you like. The scenery from the cellar door is also a good reason to visit.

Fantastic line up of cool climate aged /younger Rieslings. A very informative tasting given by Sue. A large range of dessert wines - all delicious & well priced. A selection of older reds also available. Worth a visit.

What a great experience for a novice taster! We were greeted Sue, a warm and knowledgeable guide, and felt welcome in spite of our ignorance of wine and tasting procedure. We now have the confidence to visit other vineyards.

We arrived in Orange with only time to visit one winery and do tasting! We were driving in and came across Highland Heritage winery by fluke and am so happy we did! The hostess, Sue, was fabulous and her knowledge of both the wine and the area was extensive and so helpful! We walked away knowing more about the region's wine and everything the region has to offer! An absolute treasure and wonderful experience!
