About
Heifer Station Wines is a small family owned and operated single vineyard tasting room in one of Oranges most picturesque areas. Set in a turn of the century, historic sheep shearing shed on rolling volcanic terroir. At almost 900m elevation the vineyard is truly cool climate. We offer intimate vineyard tours for groups of 5 on our 6 seater golf buggy by pre arrangement. There is also a little 'funny farm' for the little (and Big) kids to enjoy. Feed the chooks, goats and pony. Varietals and Styles include: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Rose, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Shiraz. Our newest wine is Genisse a Methode Australis Chardonnay/Pinot sparkling. "With respect for the earth, and a whole lot of Altitude - The fruit does the talking! That's the Heifer Station Way. We then add the love to create elegant single vineyard wines you will want to enjoy again and again"

Excellent service, delicious wines, and a friendly and informative sommelier made for a wonderful afternoon with my family. The chickens roaming the grounds are a bonus!

Warm Welcome
Apr. 2021 • Couples
Well if there is one thing this lockdown is good for it’s for writing reviews that should have been done ages ago and for feeling thankful that our visit to the Central West was well timed given the current restrictions.
Our visit to Heifer Station on a Friday afternoon back in May was a completely different experience to that we had at other Orange wineries during our visit to this beautiful region. We were welcomed warmly by Leanne and by her genuine graciousness and desire to please I can only assume she was probably the owner. Despite the winery being very busy and us having not pre booked she gave us the option of sitting inside or in the gardens. Being a glorious warm, still and sunny afternoon we opted for the latter where a variety of unusual looking hens seemed keen to befriend us. All six wines we tasted were very nice indeed and presented by a younger lady who was knowledgeable and confident if not overly personable. Leanne did however return to our table to enquire as to whether we were enjoying everything and then farewelled us with as much enthusiasm as her welcome and with numerous tips on where to eat, what to see and where to go. This was in stark contrast to other wineries we visited where we literally felt like an inconvenience especially as we are not experts on wines. So in all, if you are looking for a lovely all round winery experience you should make Heifer Station the top of your list.

Hi LeeLee657, Thankyou for such a lovely review and a very accurate and glowing representation of Leanne! We are so happy you had a lovely time and that the expereince was welcoming -Everyone starts there wine journey somewhere and we do feel like wine tasting should be far more appraochable than it sometimes is! Thanks again and I will pass on your lovely words to Leanne! Regards James

A really lovely Cellar Door
Jul. 2021
We found ourselves in the Orange District on the weekend and couldn't resist another visit to Heifer Station. We were so pleased we did.
There has been some beautiful renovations added since we were last there. A new area for the farm animals, more outside seats/tables/umbrellas, lovely landscaping and a beautiful new building - "Barrel Room", available to hire for functions. It has indoor/outdoor seating, wood fires, big glass doors that slide open to the decking which overlooks vines. Simply stunning.
We were so pleased to see James again. Thank you for looking after us.
You will see us again in the future.

Relaxed, chilled, comfortable wine tasting
Jun. 2021 • Couples
The tasting room looks like an old tin shed but it is so much more. There are comfortably leather chairs, benches, tables or outdoors if you want the sunshine.
It was warm, well spaced and the wine tasting wasn't rushed. It is like sitting down in a nice cafe.
For the kids there are bulls and cows to look at.

The wine is good and enough variety for all tastes.

You are good to go !
Jun. 2021 • Couples
A very nice former changing station turned into a cosy place with a fireplace. Outside you will find farm animals great for kids.
It is very pleasant to walk around eventhough it was raining 🌧for us.
We had only wine tasting. The two gentlemen were very knowledgeable and answered to our technical questions about the wine process production and other matter.
They did not rush us through the tasting which is not the always the case around Orange ( Philip Shaw) for not mentioning it.
The wine itself is a genuine gentle middle altitude cold climate drink. We have not been blown away by it but definitely worth a try.
We personally think that Orange is still not quite the place to go for wineries tours. They follow the path lead by Barossa and all the other places well ahead.
We will come back in 10 years time. If not killed by Covid 2031 😅
Anyway : we highly recommend you go.

Shiraz on a rainy day
May 2021 • Friends
On a rainy day my friends and I wanted to spend some time relaxing and drinking good wine. We arrived and Aaron was very friendly from the get go. His knowledge of the region, the wines and his hospitality made for a positive visit. The cheese platter was amazing, particularly the truffle cheese and marinated figs. Even though we all differed on our favourite wines, we left with bottles to share and great knowledge of Heifer Station.

Uncomfortable
Dec. 2020 • Friends
One staff member, (an older woman) became rather rude once she discovered not everyone in my group would be participating in the wine tasting. Some just ordered off the wine list but she was obviously not impressed by this. We ordered share cheese platters which were nice. But the whole experience was uncomfortable and we felt rather uncomfortable. I wont be going back.

Hi 783cyndil - All of the animals on our webiste are here at the farm. The animals arent in there pens every single day though -They need a spell from time to time. We have two huge heat pumps in the wool shed which are left on all the time over winter. We dont light the fire every single day, but you could have simply asked for it and we would certainly have done that. Regards James
