- kwhutley21 contributionsAfternoon wine tasting for 4.It was very busy when we got there and even though we had a booking we waited a while to be seated and waited even longer before our tasting got underway. We had ordered a plate each to have with our wine tasting which was nice but small, they did provide us an extra one free of charge when we asked. Wines were ok but not one of our favourite cellar door visits.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 January 2024

We weren't going to buy any but ended up buying a mixed half dozen. Stylish cellar door on beautiful grounds.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 May 2024
- Peter KRyde, Australia520 contributionsVery good tasting experienceFirst cellar door on a tour is always the most difficult. This cellar door was the exception, friendly, informative staff, great rapport and some very nice wines. Definitely one for the list to try and we'd definitely return when in Orange.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 26 May 2024
- Erin M3 contributionsSpectacular wines, venue and experienceOur experience was phenomenal. Not only is the winery and setting beautiful, but the tasting room is wonderfully laid out with ample vineyard views. Our tasting guide, Roger, went above and beyond to make our experience special. His passion, knowledge and warm-hearted nature made this tasting unforgettable.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 June 2024
- Charmaine H1 contributionFabulous wines! We did an hour wine tasting and our host was Roger. We were a group of 8. Roger was very entertaining with stories about the winery itself and the wine making process. We felt at times he talked for a little too long, but overall the experience was fun. The wines were fabulous and we all bought a few bottles.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 11 June 2024

- Peta WPerth, Australia45 contributionsKoomooloo Wine Tasting at Philip Shaw.Koomooloo Wine tasting. We booked our wine tasting last minute. We were welcomed warmly on arrival and told we could have our dogs with us inside. This was the first different experience. Most wineries will welcome the dogs but you must sit outside. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable of the wine and history of Philip Shaw. We tasted 8 wines all really beautiful examples of the wine makers craft. The prices were all very reasonable compared to some wineries in the area. We would recommend for all wine lovers to go and sample Philip Shaw wines.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 July 2024

We went on a busy Saturday afternoon 3 pm for a wine tasting accompanied with cheese and prosciutto.
The welcome was not really warm. We felt the staff tired and stressed just looking forward to finishing their shift
The wines are more than plain. None made us want to buy something. The lady who explained the different wines was smiley but we felt like we may have known more than her about this industry.
The highlights are the absolute stunning fireplace and the lovely two dogs 🐕roaming through the place.
We imagine it would be a better experience outside with their lovely garden. Unfortunately for us it was raining .
By comparison to Heifer station winery we cannot recommend this place.
The wine itself is a type of wine you would buy in a 3 liter cask for 20 bucks.

While the grounds are lovely, the service we recieved was inattentive as we were an afterthought from the start. Groups who arrived after us had come and gone while we were still half way through the 'tasting'. I made this clear to the staff on our departure and while they apologised, it seemed forced rather than sincere. The tasting plate may have been the only redeeming feature but at 20/pp with less than memorable wines - we would have rather spent our money elsewhere.

Heard lots of good things but we were disappointed. As the red wine was poured (a sip - not a tasting!) we were told they had been opened for 5 days and this improves the flavour!! Well it certainly didn't! Lousy for $15 a person.
The food plate was OK but not good value for money. Much better wineries around.
On recommendation from friends we bought 2 bottles and the wine at home was quite good, opened fresh. Worth purchasing, but buy from Orange Cellars - don't waste time and money booking a tasting here.

Hi there.
Thanks for visiting Philip Shaw, but I think you may have mistaken the service you received somewhere else for ours.
Our wines are never opened for 5 days prior to service and a comment like this would have never been made by one of our wine tasters as it is categorically untrue.
Please do come back to Philip Shaw to receive a free tasting from myself and I guarantee you will realise that you were mistaken.
Cheers,
Kyle

The worst experience I have ever had at a cellar door.
We arrived late to our booking (2.35pm for a 2pm booking). We were having a fantastic day supporting our regional community.
The girl at the front door was the worst, most rude person I have ever experienced at a winery. We have visited over 500 wineries around the world.
Instead of politely taking us to our table that was set up and politely telling us we may not be able to taste all the wine, we were met with a very sour face.
She was very rude and told us we probably would not be able to enter. When I reminded her we had already paid $175 and expected to be served from 2-3pm, she reluctantly spoke to her manager.
We were eventually allowed to sit out the back because they were so ‘busy’. The table was not set up. A pre booking of $175 means the table should be set up.
We had a quick service of some wines and left at 3pm.
When we left the cellar door was less than 50% full. I welcome Phillip Shaw posting the CCTV footage from 2-3pm on 4/12/21. It will show they were not busy.
Shocking experience, DO NOT GO HERE! we were late but should have received a great customer experience till 3pm.
Instead they were very, very rude, didn’t have the table set and were not even busy.

Hi there,
Thanks for leaving a review and I’m really sorry that you feel as though our service didn’t live up to your expectations.
First of all, your table was set, but as your group had not arrived and also hadn’t answered the phone when we called to find out when you were coming, we started to set up for the next booking due in 15 minutes.
What you may not know is that we are still bound by covid restriction for numbers in the Cellar Door. Unfortunately at 3 o clock we were at capacity. I (the manager) came over and told you that you were welcome to stay after 3 as we didn’t have anyone coming to your table afterwards, but your group mentioned that you had another appointment to get to.
Again, I apologise for your experience

First visited this cellar door in June 2020, just as NSW came out of our first Covid lockdown, and it was an amazing experience. The fire was roaring, the service was jumping and the wines were very good.
Jump ahead 2 years later and we were bitterly disappointed. The fire was nothing but a smouldering log with no flame, although it was still cold outside. The good wines were sold out, which is not an issue, but what was left was average and at $15 per person for a tasting (which doesn't come off the price of any purchase) was not worth it.
What was most disappointing was the noticeable fatigue of our server. Everything was friendly, but the communication was just a rehearsed spiel while looking afar with glazed eyes. As we had family with us from overseas, it was a poor experience.

A picturesque vineyard, Philip Shaw is ready to welcome you. We booked for 12 noon and after tasting about 5 of their wines (including The Idiot Shiraz - whose name really appealed to me), we were treated to a few more 'special' ones. I especially enjoyed learning about the style, the area and. the philosophy of the winemaker. Bought a selection of reds and the Rose and Pinot Gris were also good.

Bookings are recommended for a tasting/visit to this cellar door. The building is modern on landscaped ground separate to the actual winery. The tasting experience lasted about an hour and as well as the chance to taste a significant number and variety of top notch wines, an ample cheese/ham/ fruit platter was supplied to enhance the degustation. Staff were friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, efficient and very welcoming. I can strongly recommend a visit to Philip Dhaw Wines.

The tasting experience was so enjoyable. The light airy room added to the ambiance and the flow of the tasting wines perfect.
My favourite was the Rose’, Pink Billy Saignee.
We were lucky to have perfect autumn weather on the day so looking out to the autumn leaves in the gorgeous gardens topped off our view.
I would recommend the Phillip Shaw wine tasting experience if you are visiting Orange

We did the Taste and Plate experience over the weekend and really enjoyed it. What a beautiful winery! For $20 we were first able to sample 4 wines and were offered to sample any others we were interested in. My husband wasn't drinking and he was also offered a non-alcoholic version (either non alcoholic cider or soda) The cheese plate was nice and my only criticism would be to have a little more food - maybe a second type of cheese along with the brie? The staff all seem passionate and knowledgeable about the wines and were happy to spend time with us talking about what suited our tastes. We sat there for a good hour and a half sampling wine, enjoying the scenery and playing with Coco (one of their gorgeous dogs)

I really enjoyed my tasting experience ( with cheese plate) at Philip Shaw wines.
The young woman who guided me through the wines was excellent - knowledgeable and very friendly.
As I was a solo traveller it was lovely to be able to chat to her about the wines.
At the end of my booked tasting she had a treat for me - a ‘mystery’ wine. The winemaker had dropped in with a bottle of a ‘sold out’ wine from his home. She opened the bottle and allowed me to taste it with her. Very privileged. Thank you.
