About
The heritage listed (1866) March Public Schoolhouse is the home of Mortimer's family wines Cellar Door. You will likely find Peter and his family serving their award winning wines in the beautiful schoolhouse setting. Enjoy the summer in the sunshine of the garden courtyard or winter nestled in front of the schoolhouse fireplace. They have a large range of quality cool climate wines to enjoy with delicious cheese platters available to purchase. You'll will often find local artists performing at Mortimer's cellar door for an afternoon of food, wine and live music, along with a playground for the kids. If you are staying in the Canopy Loft or Studio accommodation, then it is a short walk from the cellar door through the vines where you can relax with your own fire-pit overlooking the Chardonnay.

A great cellar door, hosts and wines
A great cellar door experience. We were fortunate enough to also have a tasting around the fire pit at sunset. Peter and the staff were awesome, attentive and great to talk to. Definitely one for your "to do" list whilst in Orange. The bonus is that the wines are very good also!

Fantastically Aussie-authentic customer service and hosting by Peter Mortimer himself. The wine was the best from our tour all day and the generosity of each tasting sealed the family business stamp. Thank you Mortimers. We’ll be back for sure!

Four of us booked a day tour with Orange Wine Tours and our last visit was to Mortimer Wines. Nick our driver looked after us and we were lucky enough to have Peter Mortimer tell us great stories about the wine. Wine is exceptional and strongly recommend a visit to Mortimer Wines if you are in the Orange area.

By far the best winery that we have visited in Orange. Beautiful setting, wonderful wines and exceptional service. Peter our host was engaging, incredibly informative, humorous and nothing was a problem for him. Each wine was presented with its own special story as to its origin and how it fitted into the range of wines produced. We were never rushed and were encouraged to fully enjoy the wines and the experience. The history of the property and old school lent another dimension to our visit.
You must include this winery on your visit and we look forward to returning soon.

Arrived early (11:15) on a Sunday and only one other couple tasting in the school house with Nick. Nick was passionate about wines and fun. Only tasted whites but enjoyed them. Enjoyed sparkling so much we paid for a glass each and ordered a cheese platter and sat in front of the fire and relaxed. Great experience. On leaving a group of about a dozen arrived for tasting so we were lucky to have a peaceful time when we did.

Great cellar door set in old school house grounds. The host were very welcoming and no pressure to drink or buy any wine that you didn’t enjoy. Peter the owner was our host- he was so warm, chatty and made such a fun afternoon. Very unpretentious, Aussie winery!

We were on a wine tour it was our last stop. Unfortunately staff were trying to clean up from their busy day so we were left unattended for long periods of time without tasting the wines. Nice location though being the old school house and wines seemed nice.

Peter is so incredibly personal with his service, and you feel this through the wines. He makes you feel like you are the only customers and a joy to have around. The atmosphere and the decor reflect the warm welcome we received- background music, wooden floors, cute decor and a cosy fireplace. The sparkling, Shiraz and “Jules” are an absolute standout. This was one of my most incredible winery experiences ever.

Arriving in the early afternoon, Mortimer’s winery provided the perfect opportunity for our conference attendees to network and enjoy a perfect afternoon in the Orange winter sun. The welcome was excellent the staff phenomenal and the wine superb. The ambiance of the winery provided a fitting end for our conference delegates to stop reflect and recharge. The venue easily supported our 80+ guess that included families with children. The playground proved a hit while the gorgeous fire pits provided a warmth and atmosphere fitting to the rural focus of our event. I am sure to return, as are many of our delegates. The selection, presentation and taste of their wines is a great reflection of the incredible wine of the Orange region. Thank you to the Mortimer family James’s vocals and music provided next level ambiance. A must if visiting the region and an excellent function location. Well done see you again soon

A big shout out to Mortimers Winery in Orange! Went out on Saturday 30 September with friends. 14 of us altogether as part of a school reunion weekend. Peter was a fabulous host! He was very welcoming, friendly and entertaining! The wines were lovely and the whole afternoon was perfect . Many of us made purchases and as I had organised the weekend, my friends bought me a bottle of the beautiful Jules wine! Lucky me!
If ever you are in Orange make this a must visit!
What makes it so lovely is that it is a relaxed and friendly wine tasting and you feel like part of the family.

This is the 2nd time we've been to this family run winery, it's a must visit when in Orange. Great selection of wine that peaks at one of the best drops in Orange, hello "Jules".

We were lucky enough to be able to sit down with the owner Peter for a fantastic tasting experience. He walked us through the wines with knowledge, passion and plenty of stories and laughs to tie it all together.

On top of that the cellar door is in the historical old schoolhouse, dating back to the 18 hundreds, and houses some great memorabilia from Peter's playing days with the Canterbury Bulldogs. An all around brilliant experience, thanks Peter.
