About
The heritage listed (1866) March Public Schoolhouse is the home of Mortimer's family wines Cellar Door. You will likely find Peter and his family serving their award winning wines in the beautiful schoolhouse setting. Enjoy the summer in the sunshine of the garden courtyard or winter nestled in front of the schoolhouse fireplace. They have a large range of quality cool climate wines to enjoy with delicious cheese platters available to purchase. You'll will often find local artists performing at Mortimer's cellar door for an afternoon of food, wine and live music, along with a playground for the kids. If you are staying in the Canopy Loft or Studio accommodation, then it is a short walk from the cellar door through the vines where you can relax with your own fire-pit overlooking the Chardonnay.

Spent a luvly session this afternoon in the 'old school yard' (which brought back memories). Daniel (Mortimer) was very generous with his time and knowledge about the wines, local area and his footy family. Tasted and purchased some excellent wines and looking forward to sharing them with family when we get home. As Arnie Schwarzenegger famously said...we'll be back!!!! Peter & Ana (Newcastle)

Blown away by the generosity of Mortimers!

Not only did they allow us to BYO picnic to our $10 tasting, but the tasting itself went for 3 hours and included countless wines (with generous pours)!

We were also lucky enough to have a chat to the wine maker, Steve, who answered all our silly questions about the wine making process.

We visited 6 cellar doors throughout our weekend in Orange but our experience at Mortimers was by far the most memorable :)

We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

We stayed in their accommodation where we paid more than $300 a night, for which we could have booked a boutique hotel in Orange. First - note - as it says on the website - that the Vine studio is the ground floor of a bigger building. Means it can be a bit noisy. Note also it's a Queen bed - which wasn't good given lack of aircon. When we arrived we found i) one saucepan and frying pan to cook with + a tiny frying pan ... not enough to cook with Dirty cutlery. ii) a very noisy aircon unit which didn't generate much cool air. Batteries expired in remote iii) a TV with poor sound quality iv) a fireplace but no matches and an automatic firelight which didn't work v) an empty can of olive oil vi) a duna with no duna cover - on requesting one we were told it wasn't normal practice to supply duna covers in Orange. Part of problem is that the owners outsource maintenance to a national chain operator. Not unliveable but nowhere near what's required at the $300 end of the market. Very disappointing. Currently sitting at a winery trying to fond somewhere else to sleep our 2nd night.

By far the best winery that we have visited in Orange. Beautiful setting, wonderful wines and exceptional service. Peter our host was engaging, incredibly informative, humorous and nothing was a problem for him. Each wine was presented with its own special story as to its origin and how it fitted into the range of wines produced. We were never rushed and were encouraged to fully enjoy the wines and the experience. The history of the property and old school lent another dimension to our visit.
You must include this winery on your visit and we look forward to returning soon.

Absolutely amazing winery in Orange. We felt very welcome as soon as we got there. We sat on the veranda with our dog Ru. Daniel was a great host, very informative with the wines and certainly made our time there great. If your going make sure to try ‘Jules’ oh, and buy a few bottles, you won’t regret it!
They have a lovely property you can rent out in the vineyard which we will definitely be back to stay in. Thanks for a superb day Mortimers, we will be back!

Peter is so incredibly personal with his service, and you feel this through the wines. He makes you feel like you are the only customers and a joy to have around. The atmosphere and the decor reflect the warm welcome we received- background music, wooden floors, cute decor and a cosy fireplace. The sparkling, Shiraz and “Jules” are an absolute standout. This was one of my most incredible winery experiences ever.
