Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This walk stretches from Merewether Beach all the way to Nobby's Head. The memorial portion is a fitting tribute to our servicemen and women.
The views are spectacular.
I would recommend downloading the map of the walk which provides a great deal of insight into the fascinating geology you will see along the way.

What a spectacular coastal walk! We found our family name on the list as well. Situated up on the edge of the cliff between Bar Beach and King Edward Park. The eastern end off the carpark is more easily accessible with less stairs. This is a must do during a sunrise or sunset

What a fabulous way to see Newcastle. The walk is a bit tough at the start going up a hill from the carpark and up a lot of stairs, but its worth it as the rest of the walk is on a boardwalk, so much easier.
We really oved the Anzac statues with the names veterans engraved , and the signs about the ANZAC history.

Great beach front walks. Crashing waves. Sea pools with people swimming or dabbling in the surf in the middle of winter. Popular with many walkers. Fantastically developed and lit. Historical artifacts to keep your interest.

Newcastle’s premier walk, incredible views of beaches and sandstone cliffs overlooking the Pacific, great at any time of day, pet friendly, plenty of drinking stations along the way. Stunning views over Newcastle at sunset. Highly recommended!

This walk is sometimes mentioned as Newcastle’s best sight. That seems a bit excessive to us. After all, it’s really just a metal walkway. No one seemed to be very interested in the memorial exhibits during our visit. Nonetheless, there is no denying the beauty of the cliff top walk here, with fantastic views of Merewether Beach and beyond.

This walk is interesting. Places to stop and take a moment to check out the view. It is a wonderful memorial to our past armed services. The iron cut outs were special. The stories worth a read. Brillant

Silly us went mid afternoon in the heat... but it was a beautiful beautiful walk. It was quite a while before we found anywhere to buy water or stop for an icecream, so maybe take some water with you. There were a couple of sections not so obvious on where to go, or maybe we just missed the signs! but that was part of the fun and extra exploring. Would love to do this walk again next time we're in Newcastle, maybe when it's a little cooler.

Great walk with a view.
You can park up the top to avoid the stairs. Or park on the street and walk up via stairs. Locals use this for their morning walk.
Amazing view 360 degree views.

How far is it from the port if you are on a Celebrity cruise? Is it within walking distance? If not, how much is the fare for 4 to get there and back? Is there a charge for the Memorial walk?

Hi
A hilly 40 minute walk via the coastal beach walk, well worth the time and beautiful views on the way (Back over Newcastle, Beaches, King Edward Park). A taxi around $20 and Uber $10 each way. The Memorial Walk is free and the easiest way after the hilly walk from Queens Wharf (Usually where the cruise ships drop/pick up) is to start at Strzelecki Scenic lookout and walk down to Bar Beach (Has good café and seating right at the beach) then a nice flat walk back via Darby Street via more Cafes to Queens Wharf approx 50 mins.
Enjoy

Is this a suitable walk for people who have a fear of heights? Is it railed all the way?

How many km is this walk if you do the full end to end??
Written 24 January 2018
Not long about 500m but it links the coast walk from Newcastle beach up the hill and Bar beach... it's stunning and there's lots of information and art work so it's really engaging

Is this walk advisable on a very windy day?
Written 16 January 2018
I wouldn’t recommend it in winter when it’s cold but otherwise nonissue if it’s windy as very safe. You may also get a chance to see the hang gliders launching off the top which is great to see 😊

How stroller friendly is this attraction as we will be visiting around 25th july 2017 with a 2year old toddler.
Written 11 July 2017
You can park at the top of the hill and then easily access the walkway with a stroller. You will have to turn around at the end of the elevated walkway as there are steps which could be managed with a stroller but might be a bit difficult, depends on how mobile you are.

Please give me an idea of how many stairs there are if you start at the bottom. Thanks.
Written 15 January 2017
Hi about 50 in total, but spread out and mostly not steep
The walk, starting at the top, is generally flat at first, then occasional steps until finally about 30 steps down at the end.
Wide mostly
Good handrails
Excellent grip floor
No dogs

If I walk down the pathway how do I get back to my vehicle, the legs are not as young as they used too be .Any suggestions. Is there a bus runs along that street.
Written 5 October 2016
No bus. You need to park your car at the top of the walk as there are steps at the end of the walk which is at the top of the Bar Beach carpark. The walk has a slight slope down, but it is level. Why not take a breather and do a bit of whale watching then turn around and head back to your car.

What is the nearest two attracts places to from this place
Written 22 January 2016
The closest 'attractions' would be King Edward Park and Bar Beach/Merewether Beach stretch.
Nobbys Beach and Newcastle Beach are to the north of the walk, and the Foreshore, and Honeysuckle (where there are many nice restaurants and cafes) are about a 5 minute drive from the walk.
