Didn't swim. Only entered water to knee depth. Very clear water and excellent surf. Stunning beach front with excellent views. Beach and park are very separate from city, which is really only short walk away.

Nice Sunday day out on the train from Sydney. Taking about 3hrs to get there, an ice cream on the promenade is a welcome treat before hitting the beach. Golden sands and rock pools await with exciting waves to dodge. Wonderful day out with lots...More

Australia is bountiful with beaches that often rivals the best international recommendations that I visit. Newcastle beach is no exception, with a clean beach, not too crowded (in late October when the water felt below 10 degrees) and practical. There's volleyball nets, a designated beach...More

We came here in May while visiting our daughter at Newcastle University. The beach is pretty big with some really nice waves if you like to surf. We really like the bath pools as they get filled by the incoming tide. There's a snack bar...More

It is a very nice beach and the waves are good to swim and lifeguards are present. Parking is always full if on a hot day, and it is over crowded during summer time. I always go to Bar Beach for a swim or to...More

The beaches at Newcastle are so amazing but I love Newie the best. When we were kids we would start at Nobby's and end up at Newie. Catch the 104 bus back to Mayfield West.
