Nobbys Beach is a gentle surf beach near Newcastle; it's a good place to learn to surf. Young people are learning to surf, the gentle Nobbys Beach is a favorite exercise for young women. The exercises are run by young instructors, who have a personal touch. Nobby Beach offers gentle tides over a sand bank, making it a good place to nail basic surfing.

The Kangaroo That Lives Inside Nobbys
A very long time ago, when there were still giant sized animals around (mega fauna), all the various animals within the area would separate into two groups – one group being the females and the other the males.
They all lived together very peacefully and happily.
One day a large male kangaroo attacked a female wallaby.
This was against the law.
He was banished from the kangaroo group forever.
After a long chase by the wallabies the kangaroo reached Muloobinba, the place of the sea ferns, now called Newcastle.
As he entered the sea, he thought about how lucky he was to be able to slip away from the wallabies that chased him.
The wallabies thought that he had drowned.
But the kangaroo had swum to Nobbys Island and entered the tall rocky outcrop, making sure that he was out of sight of everyone.
He is still there to this day, but he won't come out because he is never sure if it is safe for him from the angry wallabies.
Sometimes he gets upset and jumps around inside his prison. When his giant tail crashes against the earth, it makes the rocks fall and the ground tremble.
The Awabakal people believe this is what causes an earthquake.

I have been visiting Nobbys Beach since 1971 . It is Iconic location due to many reasons . It is a beach that was created due to the change in Harbour entrance back in the early 19th Century . It has significant heritage value . It is also the beach where the Japanese owned Pasha Bulka landed in the 2007 storms ... naturally the Japanese owners were very embarrassed however having this near brand new ship stranded on the beach led to a massive boost in tourism as people flocked to Nobbys to witness this major event. As a result local cafes etc trade was boosted 20 percent plus over the period . Some locals wanted the ship to stay and turn it into a restaurant or a hostel for the homeless. However naturally it had to go . Local ingenuity raised the ship from the sand and put it back to sea. For the last 3 years Nobbys hosts the Super cars in November. It is truly a beautiful destination and not to be missed when visiting Newcastle.

I have been attending Nobbys Beach for most of my life. The beach has gone through a number of changes over the years. The beach is wide and is sheltered from the southerly winds by a hill behind the surf club. A kiosk that serves good coffee and takeaways is also located in the same building as the surf club.
Free car parking is available at different car parks beside the beach. The breakwater connects Nobbys Island and the lighthouse to the mainland. There are several surfing locations at the beach. Namely, the wedge, the spit, the reef, the bank and the groper. All these surf spots get good waves when the conditions are right. The Beach is patrolled by Council Lifeguards and Surf Club Volunteers all year round.
Nobbys beach is close to the city and harbour. A good place go relax.

Nobby's Beach was formed after sand accumulated on the south side of the breakwater after it was built in the 19th century.
It's a beautiful, white sand beach with a nice little pavilion alongside. Everyone in Newcastle has a favorite beach; for many it's this one.
Lots of dog walkers around which is either a plus or minus point, depending on which side you're on.

Great day destination , walk up the breakwall with great views of the Harbour , Stockton and up the beach towards Anna Bay , Ship movements always put a different perspective on your view.
Then walking back around the beachside of the Lighthouse . All good . The Kiosk had a good burger and watermelon juice , seafood looked ok too ... maybe next time ... after that we meandered around to Newy Baths [ pretty big swell on the day and beaches were closed]
definitely do it again

A really impressive beach with great views, a nice cafe and life guards on duty. Around the precinct is a large grassed area, playgrounds and a basketball hoop. A great way to spend an enjoyable afternoon.

I have bought tickets for the Foreshore concert here in November 2016. Whats a nice close park for us to stay in if we decide to bring our campervan up, otherwise some nice accomodation walking distance to stay in on the beach.

I haven't had experience with holiday parks but agree regarding Stockton holiday park as there will probably be extra ferries available to & from Stockton on the for this event.

Is there somewhere to eat later in the afternoon?
