Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Jumped in the car on a drizzly day, and headed south from Rydges, only a short drive to these historic baths. Great photo opportunities here. Definitely head there whilst in Newcastle , even if you are not swimming.

Merewether Ocean baths change area has had a substantial refit and renovation. A new paint job, replacement of tiles in shower, new shower heads, new toilets, a disabled ramp across the front enables access from ground floor to the change rooms and cement and painting. Well done Newcastle Council. This completes the previous refurbishment of the pool and surrounds. These improvements build upon a beautiful environment and provide excellent amenities for all.

There are 2 separate pools - one is for children and shallow ( although it does get deeper on one side) and the other is deeper. There is a defined section for lap swimmers , which is down the southern end at the numbered blocks. This pool is very popular with locals and visitors so parking can be challenging. Changing rooms are close by with showers.
We swim here everyday and are so grateful to have this wonderful facility so close to home.

The Ocean Baths in Merewether are pretty cool. Built into the rocks at the southern end of the Merewether Beach, the Baths are almost fully closed off, so the sea water gets in but nothing else. With waves crashing on the rocks just off the Baths and a view to the north of both Merewether and Dixon Park beaches, the scene is perfect. In June it was just a little cool for a swim, but still a very cool place.

A perfect place for the whole family to visit and have a dip. Has good clean change rooms and eateries nearby. Parking is limited and on hot days get in early for cover spots.

Visited on Thursday 14th February. It is good to see the sea baths are still being used today and it's a safe place to swim.

There is a long strip of sand that is the hot favorite in Newcastle. At the North end is Bar beach and down the South past Dixon Park is Merewether beach. Board riders love. Surfers feel safe there, and it is right next to expansive saltwater baths. it should be on every tourist's list of things to see in Newcastle.

I've just returned to the new baths. They are just wonderful and the view can't be beat. The early morning sunrise is so peaceful.

Aus's largest seaside pool for toddlers: always spotlessly clean.
Large ocean baths as well, and nearby restaurants, hotel etc serve the adjoining beach.

These baths are very popular (but not crowded) with Novocastrians and deservedly so.
They have a large swimming area four times the size of an olympic pool and an adjacent splash area for the kiddies.
Right next door, a couple of hundred metres down the beach, you can surf as well.
The change room facilities are basic with the dreaded rust showing here and there but are pretty much what you would expect along the coastal strip of N.S.W.
The water is changed regularly so some days you can't swim there because it's not a chlorine pool but salt water baths and all that goes with that. Remember, what goes in stays in until it's cleaned out.
On big surf days the baths may well be closed also due to the dangers of swells breaking over the baths.
If you like swimming, give them a go.
Just a word of caution also, a friend of mine had stuff stolen from him while he slept beside the baths so keep an eye on your gear.
