We visited the Newcastle Art Gallery on a very hot afternoon and were very pleased to spend a few hours in this peaceful and interesting gallery. We spent a lot of time on the ground floor which was full of some really interesting artwork including many from local artists. There was also some great Aboriginal art and some collections of... Great establishment with impeccable service and an amazing atmosphere. Ever changing display of artworks, including many of the more popular touring exhibitions. For children, I highly recommend the classes offered by the art gallery staff throughout school holiday times.

A great Gallery and entry is free! They were in the process of changing exhibitions on the ground floor but as we went there to view the John Olsen Exhibition (located on the 1st floor) that didn't worry us. A superb exhibition of Olsen's works and well worth viewing! Free half-hour parking right out front was a welcome bonus! A... More

This is a lovely cute in size gallery and has a decent size art collection changing featured artists on a regular basis showing their different works. It's a lovely place to spend an hour as it feels very peaceful.

A fantastic place that offers a dip into culture. A calm and soothing place, beautiful display of arts eevn though it was quite modest. Most exhibits free.

The Art Gallery is free and worth a quick look. There was just one collection when I visited today - Black, White Restive - displaying art works resulting from collaboration between Aboriginal and white artists. Some pieces were very striking and interesting. It isn't a big space so allow about one hour.

Their best exhibit was one of several woman aboriginals who'd collaborated to paint a giant beautiful colorful wall mural....showing their hunting grounds. The painting hung there, but more interesting was to see the time-lapsed video of it being produced. Also since it's winter holiday for school kids...they had some small art classes for children.

There was one exhibition on and a busy school holiday activity happening, with kids looking like they were enjoying themselves. It's well set out and there are gardens outside to wander around. Parking out the front is 30 minutes only, or round the back has pay parking
