Old Dubbo Gaol is a state heritage listed must see. This remarkably complete and intact gaol operated for 119 years from 1847 to 1966 and is still nestled in the main street of Dubbo. This set of 19th and 20th century gaol buildings create a pocket in time, and the experiences within brings history to life. This regional gaol is representative of powerful, surprising and dark moments in Australian prison history. We house important collections such as the hangman's kit and gallows, and unforgettable experiences such as the dark cells and the bird's-eye view from the watchtower. With guided tours, night tours, and theatrical experiences on offer, the Old Dubbo Gaol is a rare piece of history open to explore.

We really enjoyed our visit, we did a twilight tour which was fun and we learnt a bit too and it came with entry for the next day so we could have a better look during daylight but it's quite small and you'd probably only spend 1-2 hours there

We spent a couple of hours here this morning. It was really interesting. My 7 year old loves the solitary confinement room.

I went here for the first time in many years and really enjoyed myself. They have put a lot into not only the venue itself but also the actors and live entertainment. It may be a little scary for small children but as an adult I thought it was a real treat. It is interesting to know about the history... More

Once you are inside the Gaol you can not help but be transported back in time. The conditions the prisoners had to endured were just incredible. This place is a must to see if visiting Dubbo. It is located in the middle of the CBD.

Interesting place to visit and learn about colonial NSW. The self guided tour tells its story and some areas have audio or visual recordings to bring the place to life. The area is mostly flat so accessible for all ages (only place with stairs is the access to the Guards Tower). All other areas can be accessed by wheelchair, stroller... More

This lovingly restored gaol is hidden behind the main shopping strip in Dubbo, it's well worth taking the time out to visit. The self guided tour tells its story and some areas have audio or visual recordings to bring the place to life. Well worth the $17 to get in and that ticket covers multiple entries for the whole day.... More

Blink and you could miss the entrance hidden up an alley in the main street. Easy walk through the goal and the interactive characters are fun to listen to. We spent about an hour there and it was enjoyable. I do think its a little over priced at $17odd per adult (locals are free) but as a one off it... More
