We visited the centre to see ‘The Big Picture’. There is an area when you enter with art but there is an entrance fee to see other parts of the centre including the Big Picture. The Big Picture is amazing, very well done.We spent all of our time admiring this beautiful piece of art.

This place feels more of a oversized gift shop catered for Asian tourists with wallets to burn, than a fascinating place to see. The big picture too is impressive however it just feel huge. Yes it probably does measure 100 metres however the way it is shown it just does feel huge. To be honest I found the fake plants and sand with stuffed animals more fascinating to behold than the painting itself. Finally if you’re not interested in the gifts then only really allow 15 mins to see this place.

The main draw card at The Silver City Art Centre is "The Big Picture".
The painting is 100 metres long and over 12 metres high. It is quite spectacular. The painting depicts various aspects of the outback and is very well presented.
There is also a very large variety of Silver and Opal jewellery. A good proportion of it is produced on site. The range is quite outstanding.
It also has a host of paintings and a treasure trove of souvenirs, rock specimens and outback treasures.

This business has been in the same ownership for 29 years according to the owner who spoke to us in a monotone. It’s desperately in need of a complete refresh with new ideas. Essentially, it is a very large, tacky and dated souvenir shop with goods spread around all over the place and even on the floor! There are multiple uninviting cabinets full of uninspiring and dated jewellery which, judging by the plethora of discounts, no one is buying. The displays look very dusty and the whole place needs a deep clean. Don’t get me started on the bathroom which was hidden away through a storage room. It wasn’t dirty, just bizarre. Yes, there is a big picture. However, I’ve seen much better in this genre at the Jeff Morgan Gallery in Hawker, SA. I couldn’t help laughing at the dead bits of vegetation and plaster of Paris and concrete garden ornaments (animals) “decorating” the foreground of this picture. So 1970s. I was genuinely looking forward to going here. We paid the +$8 entry fee but honestly couldn’t wait to leave. I bought a gem book for my grandson because it was discounted here like almost everything else. Save your money and give this business a wide berth.

As a senior, I paid $7.50 for entry into the larger sales area for jewellery (trinkets etc) and local art works. The only thing of interest was “The Big Picture”, a large wall mural of Broken Hill. The chocolate “factory” was nothing other than a small counter (not staffed when I was there) with chocolates in cellophane packets. Definitely skip this place when you go to Broken Hill, it’s a rip off!

The Art Centre is actually several attractions in one. You can browse the art for sale for free. But the rest of the centre charges a small admission fee. There is a mine simulation, an opal cave, and a film you can watch. But the main attraction is a huge mural of the region. The Big Picture is a circular mural of various sights in the area. It's an amazing painting, with objects in front of it that add to the 3-D effect.

This was a slightly bizarre experience. We went as we were advised it is a good place to buy cheap silver items (which it is, but the jewellery is very dated/ a style for older people) and we ended up paying the $7.50 to enter the museum. We passed on the film as it was in a crowded room and playing on a small television. In regards to the “Aboriginal Art Cave” , I only hope that this is genuinely artwork done by Aboriginal Australians and not replicated by White people for their own profit...
The long painting was the highlight of the experience.
Was basically one huge slightly overpriced gift shop. The fudge in the chocolate factory at the end was pretty average and I don’t recommend it.

Largest canvas mural in southern hemisphere indoors displayed magnificently. Entrance fee photos allowed of mural but nothing else. Nice jewellery chocolates lots of different artwork for sale (cash discounts). Museum looks small from outside but its surprisingly bigger inside. A must see.

confused and jumbled collection of average art and cheap souvenirs. when we arrived the loud and opinionated management were stridently advocating their politics to some mates, ignoring us the paying customers, and talking loudly over the woman at the desk while she was trying to explain about the art on show. the movie was the best part but the rest was pretty average.

Very expensive. I have been here twice now and the stock does not seem to change (unless you count jewellery). The mural is beautiful but the wooden porch you step on when you are looking at the mural needs some dusting. Great place to go to if you have never been, but I would not recommend going a second time.
