About
Come and visit the Outback Heritage Experience which combines a museum, theatre and gift shop, with interactive displays showing the history of the Service. It also tributes to the doctors, pilots and flight nurses who work for us, and the many community groups and benefactors who support us. Enjoy a talk by our tour guide. View the aircraft in the hangar. Watch a unique film in our 44-seat theatre. Shop for special souvenirs. Explore the Mantle of Safety Museum. The Flying Doctor Service is a charitable organisation. We rely on the generosity of the community to continue our life-saving work. All proceeds from admissions and merchandise sales go towards purchasing new aircraft and vital medical equipment. Visit the Flying Doctor shop where you can get branded mugs, books, clothing, aircraft models and much more. You can also purchase online at https://docshop.flyingdoctor.org.au/.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent place to visit! The family loved the tour, especially as the RFDS series on TV had recently been filmed there. Friendly staff gave us the guided tour, great gift shop too. All in support of the RFDS. Definitely recommend.

Mixed feelings on this one. #1 tourist attraction in Broken Hill? I beg to differ. If you want to be wowed go to the War Memorial in Canberra. If you want to kill an hour, go to the RFDS in Broken Hill. I had a child with me and the staff yelled at him for eating while inside. He is 3 years old! And he was eating a museli bar. Not doing anything except eating and he got yelled at. Terrible. He is a child. I wasn't asked "excuse me no eating can you take your kid outside". Oh no. the staff felt entitled to scream at a 3 year old. I guess thats what you get.

We take all feedback very seriously and we were wondering if you could please provide more detail about your experience to enquiries@rfdsse.org.au for the ATTN of the Broken Hill VE. We have investigated with our team on-site and unfortunately, we don’t have a record of the incident occurring. You posted your review when our facility was closed for the holidays, so we aren’t sure if you meant the review for us or if your review relates to a previous experience. The Broken Hill Outback Experience is interactive, taking guests through some of the operational parts of the base, as well as exploring the history of the organisation through our information displays. We sell confectionary, soft drinks, and bottled water and often have young children eating fruit or other snacks on our tours. Our team are very welcoming to children, families and school groups.

I enjoyed my visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitors' Centre in Broken Hill. Oy was exciting to be able to go inside the hangar to see the planes. Nice film and exhibits, too.

An excellent tour. The guide was very professional. We started off with a film then a guided tour in the museum & then in the hangar with 3 planes. A very good souvenir shop. We spent about an hour here. Highly recommend a visit.

Very well organised place, good informative guides, a nice mix of talking, video, history, present day and real planes. You only need just over 1 hour here. The 1hr tour operates in "hop on & off" style so that whenever you walk in you just join where they're up to and go round with them til you get to where you started. Nice guide thru the old hangar. Museum was good, enough info on tour for me but you could go back after if you wanted to read more. Souvenir shop also had good quality items, and any purchase supports RFDS.

Appreciate you stopping by! The RFDS has evolved so much over the last 95 years. But one thing never changes - our commitment to providing vital healthcare to regional, rural and remote Australians.

Great tour. We did the guided tour and then went down into the hangar to see the planes. The tour was $15 each and well worth it. You learn a lot about the RFDS and the history of how the service was built up. They have an extensive gift shop as well so we purchased a few things for gifts and to take away with us. Visiting really helped reinforce the importance of the RFDS.
