Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As you come into Broken Hill from the South the old Junction Mine looms up on the right.
It's one of the oldest mines in the district and started in early 1885 and was a claim on the 'Line of Load' and extracted chlorides of silver over many years with varying success. It passed through several owners and finally closed in 1972. The main shaft (Brownes) and other remnants remain today to remind us of the Hill's past and gives a good view from the top as well..

Free to drive up to location with a number of signs positioned around the site explains the history and significance of the area. The main structure is impressive to see and there are good views of the surrounding area.

This place is untouched and highly recommended, it is partly fenced off but you can still get up close to most of it, it is free and you can get some great photos at dusk.

Reminds us of the hard scrabble mining times of the past , serves as a lookout and some information boards are a little faded . Good for photographs against the sky in late afternoon .

For some strange reason this site is largely ignored and doesn't rate a mention in tourist pamphlets and is sadly neglected. A minor attempt has been made to supply some info boards but appears no upkeep of the area. Stands on the original mother lode and what remains is still interesting and needs to be preserved. Good views over Town & the still operating North Mine and well worth a quick look and walk around.

You can see the old mining equipment still in place at Junction Mine, which was in operation from 1886 to 1972. There are signs which describe the equipment and explain its purpose.

Great spot tucked away on the Menindee Road. You can get up close with an old mine. Also great views of surrounding mines and countryside. A hidden gem

This is bit of a DIY attraction. An information board gives a brief overview of the earlier operations at this site which is now fenced off but it gives bit of an insight into how far workers went underground and what it was worth to the companies.

Easily accessible spot to view the Brown'es Shaft at the Junction Mine, and get a feel for the mining history. Also an exposure of the gossan - the weathered surface of the Broken Hill mineralisation that was first discovered in 1883. You can also see into the North Mine, excellent sign boards, and a chance to get some fresh rock samples with garnet.

The Junction mine doubles as a lookout and information on mining heritage. It also clearly illustrates the affect that mining has on communities and the landscape for better and for worse.
