Albury Station is worth a visit, even if you are not catching a train, as it is very close to the centre of town and has been beautifully restored to its 1880s Victorian-era grandeur, including the platform which I understand is the longest in Australia. There is a large, comfortable waiting room with some areas separated (so I expect they can be more easily kept warm in winter). The seemingly endless platform was especially impressive

This is Albury-Wodonga's most beautiful non-Church building.

In 1962, it celebrated the linking of NSW and Victoria by completion of a standard gauge line between Melbourne's then Spencer St sttaion, the Dynon rail yards and through Wodonga to Albury.

On my most recent visit in April 2022, using the excellent XPT train operated by NSW TrainLink from Melbourne to Albury (the train running twice a day, and which continues on to Sydney), the waiting room had been recarpeted.

The toilets were spotless.

Three V/Line trains per day each way from Melbourne also use the station while there's various road coach connections.

This station was designed under the direction of John Whitton and built from 1880 to 1881, based on it's historical significance it made the New South Wales State Heritage Register in 1999.

The station is a grand symmetrical Victorian Italianate style building with a tall central tower topped with a decorative cupola. The train station has the longest covered platform (455 metres) in Australia. The trains run from New South Wales States (Sydney) and Victoria (Melbourne).

Over many years, many prominent people changed trains across the Albury railway platform - the list includes: Prime Ministers Edmund Barton, Ben Chifley, William Morris (Billy) Hughes and Robert Menzies, Duke of Cornwall (later King George V), Duke of York (later King George VI), Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Louis Stevenson, Mark Twain, H G Wells, D H Lawrence, Russell Drysdale, Walter Burley Griffin, Enid Lyons, General Douglas MacArthur, Mary MacKillop, Dame Nellie Melba,
General John Monash and many others.

It's a beautiful building and one you can visit time and time again and see something new... it oozes character and charm.

Located on the seaters side of the Albury CBD, the train station and surrounds have seen some significant refurbishment over recent years. While this upkeep has brightened the area, the train station itself has kept its charm. Well worth a visit and wander into a bygone era.

Classic buildings with high++ ceilings, ornate trimmings and architecture. Extremely long covered ornate platform with information boards explaining history. View the cross over where the Vic rail gauge changed over into NSW gauge before they standardised rail gauge. Beautiful building well preserved.

It is so worth the walk or drive to the Albury Railway station as it is just beautiful. A number of the stations from Melbourne to Albury are "original" and beautifully maintained.

Visited on Wednesday 5th February, this is a landmark in Albury and well worth going to see. It was great to see it was still being used and looked after.

Came here just to see what this old station is like plus it's known as having the longest platform in Australia built in the 1880s. Of course, trains still run through here from Melbourne to Sydney and Sydney to Melbourne.
There is also a big bus stop here for those regional routes.
Everyone I met was lovely and very friendly.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking if you're dropping off or picking up someone. Bring your own food and refreshments. Toilets are good.
