Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ewan Maddock Dam is a hidden gem near Mooloolah Valley. It has recently re-opened after refurbishment and is the perfect place to spend half a day or more. From the car park you enter the shady area where you can picnic, cook a bbq and sit on the sand at the waters edge. The dam is enormous and you can swim in it on a hot day to cool off or take your kayaks for a decent paddle around it. There is a walk around the dam through the bush where you should spot lizards lounging on the huge fallen tree logs and turtles in the water. I usually walk about 40 mins into the track and back again but I know theres much more to walk. I think you need a permit to fish but you'd have to check on that as I am not a fisherperson! If you are on the Sunnie Coast make your way here for a time to relax and recharge in the beauty of nature.

Even though there were a heap of visitors to this wonderful place it was still peaceful. Great place for a barbie or picnic. A few sheltered tables and chairs. Lovely views of the dam and a great place to swim and paddle board excellent for the little ones. A beautiful walk through the trees and a beautiful gift of nature with all the birds. Lovely clean bbqs and it is well kept all round. Even the toilets were clean. Great tranquil place to take the family or even a timeout place for yourself. 👍

This concealed surprise is well worth a visit. About 1km along the Mooloolah Connection Road from the Steve Irwin Way, just after the Bowling Club is the entrance on the left. There is picnic grounds, tables, electric bbqs, ample parking, a small beach, freshwater swimming, you can paddle your canoe or kayak, bushwalking, walkway around the dam, etc. We went there in the early morning as a group and all commented positively about this hidden gem.

We recently moved to the Glass House Mountains and wanted to explore places of interest reasonably close to home. Off we went for a drive in my husbands old car and stumbled on Ewen Maddock Dam only 15mins up the road. There is a great play area for the kids and a few people out on the water in their kayak's. There's plenty of parking and a picnic area for everyone to relax and enjoy a BBQ or a packed lunch. After lunch you can follow the board walk to a track for a bit of site seeing. Absolutely stunning and great for up and coming photographers like myself, lol.

Even after heavy rain, this area offers something for all outdoor fans. Very nice picnic and access facilities at Mooloolah end of the Dam, approximatley 10km long trail ends near Landsborough and offers varied views and aspects surrounding the dam. Trail condition varies from stony in parts to mainly flat and sandy. Boggy areas associated with heavy rain, lots of goanas, birds and snakes on occasion (they move off quickly)

No better damn to visit on the Sunshine Coast. It has nice eating areas and a great playground for the kids. Its a great spot for some water fun, and is right next to a BMX bike track, skate park and tennis courts.

An update on Ewen Maddock. The main car park , swimming and picnic areas are currently closed until around Sep 2021 due to upgrade works. The entrance to the walking/bike trails from Mooloolah end is now a bit hard to find. or see from the road.. it is just past the usual entrance.
From the official website:
"Seqwater has recently modified the access points to the multi- use trails to ensure the trails can remain open during the upgrade. The project has also invested in rejuvenating the wetlands picnic area on Steve Irwin Way, the wetlands will remain open for recreation throughout the upgrade."

We came looking for Mooloola River National Park and never found it, so when we past a sign for Ewan Maddock Dam and in desperate need of a walk, we drove down the road – which is a bit unsealed at the end – but very manageable, we found an absolute gem. Everything for a reason they say and this was the reason. A gorgeous bushwalk with several trails, lovely floodplains with plenty of wildlife including an amazing array of butterflies and water dragons. Our favourite was spent watching a Lace Monitor for a while, before we left him in peace and continued our walk. There were a group of young people there on an organised outing getting ready to go off in canoes and we were slightly jealous – how lucky were they.
This is wildlife and nature at its best, come prepared and enjoy.

If you want a place to go and just take in the peace and quiet, then this might be up your alley. Clean (away from the road though) green and totally serene. Do yourself a favour.

We visit Ewen maddock dam fairly often and we really like it. There's a great kid friendly swimming spot with a 'beach' so the kids can play in the sand as well. There are picnic tables and bbqs although two were not working on our last visit.
There are also nice walking trails which are also kid friendly and a play ground and public toilets at the parking lot.
