A short water taxi ride to the island from Stewart Island and we were the only 3 people on it. No kiwis, sad, but cheeky wekas, saddlebacks, Stewart Island Robins and amazing rain foresty walks and beaches were to be had. I just loved this...More

You would think you had emerged in the Jurassic Era--beautiful, primitive, tons of birds, but nicely maintained trails! The views from the beaches cannot be captured in pictures--I hated to leave! Arrange a water taxi through your hotel.

Absolutely a must see. I recommend you book a bus tour ASAP as they book out-without that you won't know or see much

This is a MUST. Regenerating forest and lots of lovely native birds. Most of the others saw a kiwi but we didn't. Lots of saddlebacks, kakariki, bush robins and wekas about though. Also kaka and wood pigeons. Lovely walks with amazing paths.
