Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked the Kiwi Haka night with a meal in the Skyline afterwards. We started our night out by going up the lovely gondola with spectacular views of Queenstown. We were early enough to book a window table with magnificent views of Queenstown for our meal and enjoyed a drink in the lounge while waiting on our show. The show was quite short but it was very enjoyable and i think the highlight for us was when all the men were brought up onto the stage to learn the Haka. They were very funny but they enjoyed it and we have great photos to remember our experience. We then went into the restaurant for a meal and there was an amazing array of food buffet style. We booked the 8.15pm mealtime and there was no rush for us to leave and we were able to take our time and enjoy the views from our window table and then we were able to watch the sunset afterwards from the viewing balcony. There was a group meeting at 10pm to go stargazing which i am sure was amazing. We enjoyed our night and it would be really lovely for a special occasion. Coming back down the gondala at night is a wonderful sight.

This is a very short (30 minute) but extremely well done Maori cultural presentation, especially if you have never seen one before. It includes audience participation (great fun!) and afterwards there are photo opportunities with the performers. The venue holds 77 spectators, and when I went there was only about 12 of us; yet the performers put on a show as if they were in front of a full house; very professional, realistic and enthusiastic. The haka (war dance) was especially intense and fearsome. Worth the time and money!

$80 per couple ($144 with gondola) is paying well over the odds for what is a touristy and extremely short performance. Half of the time spent teaching the audience on stage rather than showcasing more of the true Maori culture. We would not recommend spending your money on this!!

While up on the skyline we saw the Kiwi Haka performance in their dedicated theater, which itself resembled a small-town movie theater with a stage up front. As luck would have it, I was selected "Chief" of the visiting tribe (we in the audience) and got to participate in the welcoming ritual - I considered this to be an honor, and recommend you volunteer if given the opportunity.
After the welcoming ritual we saw several types of Maori rituals played out on the stage by native men and women. Men in the audience were brought onto the stage to learn haka, and women were brought up to learn some of the dance rituals. This was a truly interesting and engaging show, well worth the trip up the mountain and not to be missed if you're in town for a few days.

My tip is to buy your tickets to this show while already up on the mountain as you get your next ride up in the Gondola included which gives you another excuse to visit the mountain without paying! My wife was keen to see a bit of Kiwi Culture but show was very short (20 mins) & lacked any real detail or passion! Maybe I am just used to watching the Haka before a rugby match!

The performers were really great. The performance is not very long, but makes up for that with the enthusiasm of the Maori performers and the "engagement". The music and traditional songs are very nice. Worth the trip up the mountain on its own.

I loved this experience. When they asked for audience participation was so much fun. I was terrible but had a great time trying!

With all the adventure and adrenalin activities to do in Queenstown you could be forgiven for putting this experience on the "nice to do" rather than the "must do" list but you would be robbing yourself of this incredible experience.

Right from the start the audience is an integral part of the show, as my husband found out being the volunteer (chief) for the group. We were led downstairs into a very modern yet intimate amphitheatre decorated in traditional Maori scenes and props. Once we were all seated and the show started we went into another world of incredible song, culture and history.

The warrior protecting his ground from the approaching stranger (my husband the volunteer) was chilling to watch as his intensity and commitment to the war dance (apologies if that is not the right terminology) got everyone uneasy. After this ceremony had completed the mood changed as the warrior traded his spear for a guitar and led the group in traditional song and dance. The performers are incredibly passionate and sensitive to presenting their culture, history and traditions to all visitors in a way that leaves you feeling that richer for having been a part of the show and listening to their stories. The highlights for us included the ladies getting up on stage to try (and fail) a traditional ball dance which was so much fun.

We bought this experience with the buffet dinner on the end and the adjacent restaurant which was also incredible. Would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Queenstown who has ever had an interest in the Maori culture. Incredible and unforgettable.
