Description:

Check out the underwater inhabitants of Lake Wakatipu at Queenstown...

Check out the underwater inhabitants of Lake Wakatipu at Queenstown Underwater Observatory. See the diving ducks, massive trout and slinky eels just metres from the lakeshore. Conveniently located on the Main Town Pier at the lake, the Underwater Observatory offers fascinating and informative entertainment for all ages in all weather. Feeding the fish offers excitement for the fish, as well as the viewers. Two species of trout are on display - the Brown imported from Europe around 100 years ago and the Rainbow, a North American import. Scaup Ducks dive among the fish for food while the NZ Long Finned Eel gliding through the water could live up to 90 years and weigh up to 16 kilos (35lbs)! Underwater Observatory is possibly the best value attraction available in Queenstown.

Got a free viewing as part of kjet ticket. Can't believe they would charge more than a dollar to view this underwater area! You'll see a handful of large fish and some diving ducks but really not worth paying for.

I like fishing for trout and it was interesting to see some huge ones swimming around with the diving ducks and the resident eel but not worth $10 per adult,I am afraid.

This was a really interesting view for kids and adults. The water is so clear and for $1 you can release food into the water and watch the diving ducks, trout and eels feed.

The Underwater World is located just off Marine Parade, next to the Twin Rivers Jet and Parabungy attractions, and consists of a submerged gallery, providing underwater views and a chance to experience the wildlife in the waters surrounding the town. The 'diving' ducks serve as a particular favorite for many, while others prefer to pay a visit to the nearby... More

I really enjoyed this place. It is $10 each to enter but it was great fun and there was a machine where you could pay $1 to feed the ducks and the fish! It was well worth it in my opinion, I had never seen ducks dive like that before! and the fish were huge! We sat on the seat... More

The tour guide was really puffing up the potential for great white sharks coming into the Lake. I don't think so. it is basically a submerged building with some wire baskets attached to the outside so you could see some underwater plants and then some tiny little fish swimming by in the cloudy water. and we were there on a... The observatory here is pretty simple; an acrylic wall maybe 10-15 feet under water that lets you get a fish eye view of the lake. A cluster of salmon, trout, and native ducks take up residence there waiting for food pellets to drop…1 NZD per feed but they release a good amount of pellets each time so it’s better than... More

Although KJet is awesome, I found the underwater observatory a bit boring... Do go there if you've got some young kids, there is a machine to drop some fish food if you insert a dollar. Do not go there if you want to see different types of fishes !

Was included with our jet boat. Wouldn't be worth paying to see. But worth checking out for free. Lots of fish and you can feed them for $1.
