Way better than ice skating in Auckland! Queenstown Ice Arena has fairly comfortable lace up skates, not too many people on the ice, pleasant music (and not horrifically loud), great value (you can skate for 7 hours for $19), interesting (there are ice dancers taking lessons whilst you skate around them.

What a cool atmosphere, but bring good clothing. It's as cold as it gets, but huge fun. Not that I am any good at ice skating, however it was great just skating around without any major drama.

I was initially expecting a very small place when you see the entrance to the Ice Skating Arena however it is pretty big inside with a full size ice rink. The facility is well maintained and neat. It also has good eating and drinking facilities inside so if you are taking the kids and are not skating yourself there is... More

My teenage girls enjoyed this rink, they loved the flashing lights on the ceiling and the music videos on the big screen. You could spend a lot of time here if you had the time it's very central to town, If you are staying in town you may want to walk to the rink through the gardens as we found... More

Whether cooling down in the heat of summer with the cool breezes as you zip around the arena or in winter wrapped up like an Eskimo, snow on the ground, it's so much fun!! In the grounds of Queenstown Park, to the left of the upper part of the park, they rent skates and this is great for everyone the... More

Took our 12 year old son here for the afternoon. He isn't a skater, but the place wasn't overly busy, despite it being school holidays, and he spent a good couple of hours skating and learning the ropes! Just a tip - it's VERY cold inside, and you probably need more layers inside than you do outside. There is a... More

We moved to New Plymouth 2 years ago from Auckland and there is no other ice rink in North Island apart from Auckland unfortunately. Because we used to play ice hockey we either drive 5 hours to Auckland to skate or travel in South Island to get to an ice rink. We took advantage of the Winter School holidays this... More

Went with kids early at 10am on a day that was meant to,rain. We had it to ourselves for almost two hours. Staff super friendly and helpful. We hire two seals to push our 2 and 4 year olds around on. Perfect for them to experience speed and for me to have something to hold onto. Great activity. Had hot... More

Warm up then you can stay and play as long as you wish. $19 for adults incl skates and $7.50 for children under school age. The staff were very helpful, there is a cafe with goodies to warm you up as well. The Flupper penguin assisted our 5 year old scoot around the ice. One tip make sure you have... More
