    Dunedin Railway Station
If you are in Dunedin, it is worth your while visiting the train station. The outside gardens are very picturesque. The inside has an art gallery and the tiles on the walls inside the station are Royal Dalton. Apparently the platform is 1 km long. Well worth a visit.

A beautiful historic railway building and gardens.
A very interesting historic railway station building, inside and outside. The first floor is simply amazing and stunning. Platform was good with the heritage carriages. Also the steam loco displayed under the glass was worthwhile to view. A very very pretty building and surrounds including the gardens.

    An absolute must visit
With more than 3,000 reviews before mine, I’m sure that it’s all been said, but this is a must with site. Anyone who loves history, architecture &/or railways will just love it. And there are also detailed low know gardens in the lawns outside. Still a working station, the large building now also houses a restaurant in one section and upstairs, a sports museum. The architectural detail, inside & out is simply stunning. Restored & reopened in 2000, it’s a credit to those who designed & built it in the first place, but also to those who maintain it now for it’s in pristine condition.

    Great architecture
This is an amazing place with a platform 1 km long but no trains to speak of! The architecture is amazing and very beautiful both inside and out. There are a couple of exhibitions inside as well but like so much in New Zealand, they close at 4 pm. The fact this is one of the main attractions in the city says a lot about the city itself!

    Interesting architecture and gardens
Spend a few minutes inside before hopping onto the train. Very interesting architecture and beautiful gardens in front. This claims to be one of the most photographed sites in NZ. The inside rotunda leading to the platform is worth stopping to admire. The 2nd floor contains a museum to NZ athletes.

    Impressive Build For Its Time
Definitely worth ticking this one off the list. Very impressive build for its time. Great creative photo opportunities inside & out amongst the lovely architecture. Magnificent nostalgic feel standing on the platform when a train pulls in or out.

    A must visit!
This is a must visit site while in Dunedin. It’s been beautifully restored and is well worth a wander around both inside and out on the platform, as well as in the lovely garden. The Art Society has a shop upstairs and had a great exhibition as well when I visited. A great experience!

Dunedin is worth a sight-seeing tour
Dunedin Railway Station is a result of one of the richest mining industries in New Zealand. Dunedin is a prosperous city in the south of New Zealand's South Island, it's worth a visit to look around the city's railway highlights. These days, there's a beautiful restaurant that occupies part of the former railway station. Dunedin is an historic city, it's well worth a sight-seeing tour.

We felt that we had stepped back in time. Historic and stunning architecture of a bygone era. We stepped out onto the platform and I felt like it was 1850 only to find out that the trains I was looking at were the trains that people were boarding.

This is a place of Dunedin’s history a short walk from the centre of the city.
The garden in front very good for photos too,Inside is the booking office for different trips and up stairs is the local art society.which features many different artists work including mine. There’s something for all in styles.Theres also a sports hall of fame.

Apparently the most photographed building in New Zealand. It's certainly an impressive Victorian building. For me it was just as good seeing the intact interior with its tiles and booking office windows. Lovely architecture and great that it's been preserved and is still used.

Parking nearby gets full very early as it's the cheapest around.

New Zealand's South Island is full of surprises. Dunedin was once the Queen City of the South, a rich and productive city. When you see George Troup's "gingerbread fancy" in Renaissance Revival style, it is quite staggering. After its completion in 1906, the station often served 100 trains a day. These days, its has many other functions. The station was refurbished in the late 1990s, and the gardens were restored.

It was good to finally see this place up close as we’ve driven past it on our previous visits. What a great little gem it is!
You can just imagine the ticket counters being busy in the day and the crowds thronging through the hall and on to the platforms. Brilliantly built and refurbished in 2000.

This railway station was built in Flemish Renaissance style and is the most photographed building in New Zealand. It dates back to the early 1900s and is worth seeing while in Dunedin.

The inside is gorgeous with 750,000 beautiful Minton mosaic floor tiles.

You are able to go upstairs and see the view from the wrought-iron balcony.

The gardens are beautiful too.

I loved this historic railway station with its original features, including ironwork and magnificent decorative tiled interior. Beautiful balcony surrounding the main lobby.
Good little attraction shop too with really friendly staff.
Postcards and stamps sold and they will post them for you too.
Historic trains still run from the station.

The Dunedin Railway Station is considered to be one of New Zealand's finest historic buildings. It is beautifully designed, with bluestone walls, granite columns, and limestone detailing. There is a turret on one end of the building and a clock tower on the other. The interior is equally impressive, with beautiful stained glass windows in the mezzanine and a porcelain tile mosaic floor. Knot gardens adorn the grounds. An added treat on the day we visited featured siblings in traditional Scottish attire, with the older sister playing the bagpipes and the younger brother dancing to her tunes.

It is about 10 years since our last visit and I was so happy to see the building is still in excellent condition. The gardens at the front of the railway station are so well kept. Inside the railway station you can appreciate the architecture of a bygone era - the stairway and lower area is original. You can easily walk onto the platform and if you are lucky you may see a train.

The Dunedin Railway Station dates from the early years of the 20th century. Dunedin was a prosperous town and was dternmined to show it. The station was one of the busiest stations in New Zealand. Today, it hosts tourist trains. The style of the station is Renaissance Revival, or more colloquially "gingerbread." Dunedin was one of the centres of commerce in New Zealand. The name "Dunedin" is Scots Gaelic for "Edinburgh." The Gold Rush of the 1860s made Dunedin wealthy; it's still regrded as one of New Zealand's "top four" cities. It's the centre of he Otago Region.
