A great memorial for the lives lost to be remembered ,very sad but a good way for us to try and relate what the people who died and survived the Earth Quake went through at that time .

This monument is simple and effective. It is possibly best to interact with the monument by moving between the chairs but I felt too moved to do so. It is very easy to imagine that each seat belongs to a person and what was especially...More

Whilst its a nice way to remember all those lost its a shame the chairs arent sitting in a nicer area than just an empty section, would like to see them in Cathedral Square or the Botanical gardens etc

It was very emotional seeing all the white chairs which represented lives that were lost. Makes you take a step back and appreciate life.

Quite simply, we cried, and forgot the rain pouring down for a while. The sight of the baby's cot among the other chairs was so powerful.

Heartbreaking to see how each chair recognizes the loss of life incurred during the earthquake. Especially the baby car seat and child's chair.

The Empty White Chairs show the stark reality of the Christchurch earthquakes. It's an opportunity to see the number of people that Christchurch lost that day.

My wife and I were on the trolley when we passed the site where the chairs are located. No knowing what it was we assumed that it was a site of a church that had been destroyed in the earthquakes. Later we found out that...More
