Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited this site and really highlighted the strength of the earthquakes here. The building was at one time very beautiful and a shame to see one part of its walls now collapsed. However this is an important reminder of what happened here,

It is amazing after almost 12 years since the earthquakes, that so much work is still needed on this cultural icon. We were told that it will be around 2028 before the reconstruction is completed. You can walk around the worksite to inspect the ongoing reconstruction but cannot enter. Best views are from the 4th Floor of the adjacent Christchurch Library.

The rebuild of this magnificent cathedral is still a work in progress and will be for some time yet. The fences block the view of the building and some of the spires can be seen near the fence. This delayed rebuild is due to deliberations about the future of the existing cathedral on the current site.

In the 2011 earthquake the church's tower collapsed and left this otherwise beautiful old building as a ruin.
Finally, almost 10 years later, it's been decided that they going to rebuild/reinstate the cathedral. It'll take a few years for sure.

Every time I've returned to my hometown since the earthquake this dreadfully sad reminder remains. Still nothing done! My terrible rating relates not to the ruin itself but to the planning processes and squabbling of all involved. Get on with it for goodness sake.

The best part, 5/5, about viewing this reconstruction was having a chance opportunity to listen to a group of locals with differing opinions about this massive and expensive restorative project. The all spoke respectfully with their points of views and facts. It was a pleasure to hear such a civil conversation.

When we got to Christchurch one of the first places we went to was the cathedral to see how the rebuilding was progressing It was severely damaged in the earthquake of 2011 and from what a local told us some wanted it demolished but others fought to save it and they won .
It is a very slow and costly job but it seems to be getting there .
Will be good to see it in its former glory .

As a Kiwi, there is so much sadness when I see the ruins of the iconic cathedral so many years later. The fantastic news is that work on the rebuild has now begun. What a job, but no matter the cost or religious affiliation, Christchurch deserves its cathedral back along with all the other lovely stone buildings.

Christchurch Cathedral got severely damaged during the earthquake of 2011. It was being restored at the time of my visit to Christchurch. Would like to visit the same after it is fully restored.

Take your time to paid a visit to see the Cathedral in ruins, and discover by yourself what damage an earth quake can do to a building and to know that no old building is safe... So sad!
A sad reminder of what was and what is still to be done. Visit the city on on the 5th year anniversary of the earthquake and sad to experience the very little that seems to be happening in the centre. Wounder WHEN the city will make a decision what to do with this historic building. Even though there is still many empty buildings and lots of blocks where the buildings have been completely demolished.
