There are some lovely walks of different lengths around the Port Hills. Good information on websites to pick one.
Some paths can get a bit muddy after rain and some are more accessible than others - the ratings given are good.
The port hills look absolutely stunning, from other people’s photos. So I spent hours studying the trails and deciding which one to take. Sign of the Bellbird ( -43.632113, 172.625593) was chosen, due to easy car access and fabulous views.

People drive and cycle up here. The views are fantastic. There are plenty of trails for mountain bikes and some separate trails for walkers. Nonetheless keep an ear & eye open for mountain bikers as they do sometimes whizz along.
