This street was badly broken by the earthquake and there are a number of buildings being demolished. However this street shows the attitude of Christchurch, The rebuilding efforts are in full swing and this is a pleasing aspect of a visit to this street.

There is still a lot to be (re)build in Christchurch and this streets is one of the examples. Apparently it took 5 years to decide where to go and now they are re-building in a fast pace the new city.

Time to update this listing. Half of High St is still fenced off awaiting decisions by owners and Insurers - appalling state of affairs. Luckily a few new projects are starting at the eastern end of High St, within the innovation precinct, so by the end of 2016 we might see some life here, but not the quaint, slightly seedy... More

We were here just a month or so after earthquakes and it was devastating to see the damage this beautiful city had, but local spirit was amazing, friendly and so happy to give you any info/history etc. The pubs were class but the irish bar as expected was memorable from the hospitality to the divine cuisine we devoured. Fantastic city... More

Very badly damaged in earthquakes, but some buildings are still there in a ruined condition. No access allowed at present.
