To my mind, this is an extension of Brighton but from here to Spencer Park, one has to walk, or bike. Like many of the beaches (really the one long beach with stretches named after local surf life-saving clubs, the easterly breeze can be refreshing, even cold but also "bracing". Ch-ch is lucky to have such a long stretch of... More

It's amazing how you forget what's in your back yard .I'm christchurch east born and breed .and the beach is still an amazing place to seek comfort with a good friend as the water laps at your legs and the sun warns your soul . The beach was clean with just the normal sea things washed up .And the surf... More

Funky Marys was a perfect place for us to stay...light & bright with comfy furnishings and happy quirky decorating...we loved our stay and appreciated the washing machine/dryer and the extras like fresh muffins...loaf of bread with lovely jam...plunger coffee!!! Everything you need and close to the beach!!

Always popular with locals and tourists alike. Great beach. Clean and easy to get to. At its best in the morning. Do yourself a favour and call in at Beach cafe for a coffee before or a lovely brunch afterwards.

Deserves its popularity. Nice sand and great swimming on a hot day. Good parking and lovely cafe handy. Excellent kids playground too.

Waimairi beach is my favourite beach in the Christchurch region. It's safe for swimming, as the waves are a good size. It is plenty spacious and never overcrowded. The car park isn't very big, but there is also plenty of street parking nearby. I recommend this beach!

The beach is really wide(at low tide) and is nice sand. There are sections that are for dogs which is nice if you have em. Other than unpredictable weather it's a great place for a walk or swim if you can brave the chilly water. Most mornings and evenings though you will see some sort of surfing entertainment.

I found this one best and fantastic beach in all three beaches I visited in christchurch. An awesome white sand and blue water combination beach.

Depending when you go and what your purpose is would largely sway your opinion of this location. I have nothing against it what-so-ever and on a calm Summer's day, if I'd just hopped off an aeroplane from Mogadishu it would be paradise. However, it had turned into a cool, blustery and greying day when we went for a ride there... More
