- springbanktraveller972 contributionsA feast for the EyesA most beautiful park in the centre of Christchurch. So many species of plants, flowers, bushes and trees blooming in the spring weather. A stream flows throughit and has many species of waterfownl swimming about. Many paths to walk along. A glass cafeteria with seating inside and outside under shady umbrellas. No wait servce, all food is bought at the small area in the glass house. So much to enjoy and you could spend several hours in the park.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 1 December 2023

- TWal1Canberra, Australia2,941 contributionsGreat Public SpaceThis is one of the largest parks in the world and is larger than London’s Hyde Park but smaller than New York’s Central Park. It hosts a variety of features from botanical gardens, public golf course, international cricket venue to open spaces for families and people who want to exercise. Each Saturday morning, it hosts the local parkrun and it is an excellent event. It is very inclusive and is open to everyone regardless of ability.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 March 2024

This place is big, in four days I didn't even get to see all of it, I wonder if I even drove all the way around it. It's a peaceful piece of green in the middle of the city, wide open space and includes a botanical garden. It's worth a walk through even to take a shortcut through the city.

Hagley Park is huge, divided into a Northern and a Southern section. Beautiful old trees everywhere, small lakes and ponds, and all this right in the city.
Actually Hagley Park is a kind of divide of Christchurchs inner city.
There's runners, golfers and various cycle paths criss-crossing the park.

Great open spaces, flat, mature trees from many years standing, well used - always a good sign. However. Be aware it is also a public golf course - it's actually quite dangerous if you have a group of (reckless) young men teeing off and smashing balls towards you at a great speed, and laughing outrageously out aloud. The eastern side of the park is safer for one's perumbulations. There is a large cafe and access to the Botanical Gardens. Parking here as well although we obsesrved it generally full.

This is a very large park in the center of the city. It has cricket fields, basketball courts, bicycle trails and the part we liked most a path along the. Avon River leading to the center of the city.

We walked this park each day in the morning, it was beautiful and fresh and well laid out. It encompasses the gardens which are well kept and perfect. The pool with sculptures is really pretty and meaningful. Many runners and walkers in the morning which was when we were in it.

It is a huge area, but what I wanted to see was the cricket ground, so we wandered over. There was no gate so we could have a good look at this Test Match venue and take a few pictures without any problems. Where else in the world could you do that?

Hagley park is a vibrant place to stroll. Botanical gardens, sports fields, exercisers, commuters. Everyone enjoying some greenery in the mid city. Take a stroll on the well defined, mobility friendly paths and enjoy all the people who say ‘hi’ with a smile.

Hi we are in Christchurch for New Year. Can you advise what is happening in the Park please. Will there be food and drink available, what time do the festivities start, can we bring a picnic? Thank you Jean McVeigh

Sorry but I don’t live there . You can probably get your answer via google. Remember it is the middle of summer at Christmas so you will have different opportunities. Enjoy your visit
