Twizel v Turangi

Both, I believe were hydro towns built to house the dam workers. Both have dangerous turn-offs from the main highway. Twizel is the oasis in the McKenzie Basin. Rumour has it that... read more

We went to Twizel is for joining in the Lord of Ring tour, the tour lasts for 2 hours, and according to my memory, it cost NZ$75 pp, the tour guide owned the land that the film was shot, she also was in crowd scenes. She told us lots of interesting stories about the making of Lord of Ring, and... More

The drive to Twizel was nice through the Lindis pass, but Twizel itself is a waste of time. The Salmon farm 3km out of Twizel was disappointing - the salmon are so over fed by the hordes of tourists (free feeding), they're not even interested in the pellets anymore and hide at the bottom of the tank where you can't... Both, I believe were hydro towns built to house the dam workers. Both have dangerous turn-offs from the main highway. Twizel is the oasis in the McKenzie Basin. Rumour has it that it was sold to an Aussie who was appalled when he found he was expected to take the place back to Oz with him. Since then, the town... More

We stayed at Quail Rest on an overnight stay. The cottage is fully equipped and off the grid! Loved the outlook with mountain and water views. Very clean and comfy!!

The hotels and guest houses along the edge of the lake all offer exceptional views. From Twizel trips can be arranged to visit the glow worm caves, Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound and many other places of interest.

Visited this place. Very boring. Very rude staff in the supermarket. Nothing to see or do. Give it a miss.

After the other spectacular locations in N.Z. , Twizel is bound to be mundane. Nice and tidy country town. Fot fishing enthusiasts.

The journey from Christchurch to Twizel took about 3 hours in our car, the scenery is stunning. Twizel a good town to base yourself as you explore the area, great fishing, walking, bike riding, boating and snow and water skiing

A clean and friendly town with a good bakery that was open early on a Sunday for coffee and snacks. Good service.

Stop by the salmon farm and enjoy fresh salmon sashimi. Feed the salmon in the pond. This is an annual treat when I go down south for a holiday with my family.
