We started here on a drive around the bay. The town itself is small and mainly an industrial port. Follow the road west and try the hiking trails at the top of Dyers Pass.

Lyttelton suffered quite a bit of damage from the 2010 quake and section of the town were closed to tourists as a result. It was an interesting town, with good restaurants and nice shopping.

Took the bus from the Christchurch terminal - only $4 to to Lyttelton. Enjoyed walking around the port, up the steep street to the top of hill/town and crisscrossing down the hill to look at the enchanting (from the outside) villas, took a stroll through a graveyard to read the headstone (very sad stories told by many of them), walked... Lived here for several years prior to the 2011 earthquake but this area is still special. If you have a few hours free definitely pop through the tunnel for breakfast/coffee/lunch or a drink. And take a walk around. Any day is good but if you want to see the place buzzing visit on a Saturday morning when the market is... More

Lyttelton is a lovely little town by the sea only about a 15 minute drive from Christchurch city. The road in and out is through a 2.5 km tunnel which is awesome. There are a lot of lovely old houses and quite a few shops.

Not far from Christchurch you will find Lyttelton that has been built in the side of a hill with lots of interesting houses. It suffered a lot of damage in the earthquake but is slowly rebuilding itself. Great place for walking if you're ok with hills. We had a great visit of the port so spent a lot of time... More

A lovely place for a long lunch. Quaint buildings and friendly people. A good chance to travel through the Lyttleton Tunnel.
