A group of us from our exercise class walked this one Sunday morning (with a much deserved meal and drink at the Little River pub afterwards). We are a range of ages (14 - 62) and fitness levels. There are a couple of toilets along...More

As in GB, rail cutbacks have been a boon to cyclists. This trails goes from the university town of Lincoln, across fields, besides swamp and lake and through history (read Gordon Ogalvie's books). Another pleasantry if you have the time.

The main reason I enjoy it is that its safer than riding on the road to Little River and is mostly flat. I have found as I have got older 58 that I am not as fast at riding it as I was. So for...More

This bike track is level and goes around two lakes beside the Port hills. The track is best suited to a mountain bike but would be manageable with a normal road bike. Although you can now start from Hornby, the best section is from the...More

This is a great ride for families. We took our 6 year old and he loved the museum at the start and then the bike ride across the bridges, round the lake and looking at all the birds. And lovely end to the day with...More

You need to pick your day for this excursion. Something to do with the shape of the hills, but it has to be one of the windiest places on Banks Paninsula and we were unlucky enough to get head winds in both directions. Little River...More

Running beside the lake and through grasslands this bike trail is well worth a look on a clear day you can see across the lake to the mountains, a great photos opp. Its even cool to go when its foggy gives it a surreal feel.

A flat ride of 26 kms from Motukarara to Little River along the rail trail this is a worthwhile trip around the valleys of Banks Peninsula and along the edge of lakes Ellesmere and Forsyth. The destination of Little River affords a cafe and accommodation....More
