Gorgeous - even in the wet

The walk is very easy, and can be done by all levels of fitness. Even in the rain we got beautiful views from the lake.

This was a lovely walk with amazing reflective views in the lake of the Southern Alps and Fox Glacier. We were lucky to be there on a sunny and fairly still day. Very pretty. The restaurant looked worth a visit when we perused the menu. Check out the nearby viewpoint also for more fabulous views.

Definitely get up early to catch the still morning water and amazing reflection. However, be prepared to encounter a crowd! The jetty lookout walk was an easy walk through some lush vegetation with occasional glimpses of the peaks (minus the reflection). Such an incredible site that must be seen!

Really beautiful lake with spectacular reflections. Well worth the ~45 minute trail and boardwalk walk it takes to reach the various viewpoints (the walk itself is also very pretty). We went around dusk in April and had great views, and enjoyed the quiet, calm serenity of the lake. Definitely bring a camera, but that goes without saying! I don't think... More

Parking is free and it catered for our campervan. There is an information centre with a gift shop, café and toilet. It all looks nice. There is a short walk to start the route over a swing bridge. The whole walk took us about 1 hour with stops at most of the viewing stations. Whilst describes as lake walk it's... More

While it was raining at the Fox Glacier, the reception staff suggested to go to the Lake Matheson as it might be sunny there and that is is a nice walk. Which we asked for. How right she was, there was a blue sky and a beautiful walk around the lake. It is a 1.5 hour walk all around the... More

The Lake Matheson walk is one of the best short walks in New Zealand. The track is well maintained with lots of view points & information panels. The lake & surrounding rain forest are gorgeous and you will get beautiful views of the Southern Alps on a clear day. The view is better in the morning, as cloud tends to... More

Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. On a clear day, the reflection of the lake is spectacular, and the walk is enjoyable and beautiful. Certainly one of the most incredible sights I've seen.

The scenery is hidden for most of the track except a few perfect moments where it just takes your breath away! We were fortunate to have a blue sky and no clouds. This has to be one of the most picturesque spots in New Zealand's South Island.

This was the most picturesque place we visited in NZ. As long as it's not raining and even better if the sun is out. Mirror Lake is amazing words cannot express the beauty of this place so check out these photos.
