Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are expecting a vibrant beach environment, be warned! This isn't Whangamata (voted number one beach in NZ, and my current home for 6 months! ). It is, however, a patch of sand (imported by truck, I hear) and there are a few brave souls that don their swimsuits and jump from the wharf into the icy cold waters of the bay in their swimsuits long enough to get wet before they climb out of the water onto a ladder. Soaking up some sun is a good way to spend a Sunday on a bright "Sprummer's day" (mostly spring with a spritzer of summer, that's Wellington weather). I did enjoy the fish and chips at the water side restaurant.

I walked along the Bay and the view is truly awesome. The water is also incredibly teal blue and pedestrian way is really wide and quite spacious. Definitely worth checking out when you’re in the area anyway. I was there at the onset of spring so I didn’t actually take a swim but even walking along the shore was worth it.

On a stunning Wellington day you couldn't find a more scenic place to walk, bike ride, skate board or whatever. The scenic harbour - another perspective of Wellington city, the hills dotted with houses, beach, superb.
Great that you can walk as much or as little as you want, and good to see people of all ages doing this.
Having lived in Wellington for much of my life, visiting yet again marvel at the beauty of this place..even more spectacular when the pohutukawa are flowering

The walk around Oriental Bay has beautiful scenery and an even path. You can stop at one of many coffee shops and restaurants around the bay or wander down to the beach for a walk on the sand. Spectacular views of the Ocean and city while walking.

Fabulous place to walk along the bay as the sun goes down. Lovely architecture and a great place to people watch! Quite a few people swimming at 6pm and enjoying the artificial beach. Also a little of people out running too!

A lovely walk from downtown to Oriental Bay. We went in the evening so it had a different, serene vibe. When you go back you can easily take a different route downtown so you can see other stores and stuff :)

I always come across Oriental Bay to Freyberg pool. It is beautiful and serene by feeling the wind. Overall, it is the best place to jog, walk, work out and swim at Freyberg pool.

After several hours of travel we arrived in Wellington. beautiful city that has this great beach option. It was a very windy day and it was cold but we took advantage anyway. very nice view of the entire bay. It's also very nice to walk along the waterfront.

Not your usual review, but I hope it helps someone. Like many, I travelled in my own car, and upon reaching the capital, felt burdened with looking for a free place to park for a few nights, while I stay in a nearby hostel. Evans bay Parade on Oriental Bay was the best place I found, just on the roadside. I was parked there for 3 weeks while I stayed in the city, and when I had my bags, it was a $12 Uber to get to the CBD

Nice view and good place for free parking to have access to the city by feet.
You can walk the whole harbour walk from that point starting to the city and Sea museum!
