Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loyally Bay is a Bay and suburb on the south side of Wellington and a good place to watch the surfers.

Nice for a stroll along the beach or roadside. A good spot to watch the surfers (the brave ones who can cope with the cold and winds that often visit Lyall bay).
Call at Mauranui surf cafe club for a warm or some food.

Large, expansive bay just outside downtown Wellington. Perfect for walks and just looking out over the waves.

Beautiful place to spend a day at in true kiwi fashion! You cannot go wrong with this clean beach where I found the water to be a bit warmer to swim in!

There are very few places you can take a dog to a beach in the summer, but Lyall Bay has a dedicated section of the beach

We had a walk along the beach after having lunch nearby. Really nice views from the beach, especially on a nice day. There was quite a bit of drift wood and stones on the beach (more than I was expecting, but not enough to stop you from going to the beach). Certain sections of the beach do not allow dogs on it and this is clearly signposted. It is one of the larger beaches in this area.

Lyall bay beach is a popular wellington surf beach opposite wellingtons international airport Wellington. Surf not very big as it is protected from a direct southerly swell. Surfers complain and it is common knowledge with the locals as the signs say, "not safe to swim after heavy rain or rain for 48 plus hours" as it is for most Wellingtons beach's In summer it has been recorded re the sewage over flow from Wellington's sewage system, not only could you smell it but you could taste. Plus toilet paper and solids are regularly found on the beaches. A web site that shows when beaches are safe to swim. Google is it safe to swim wellington, new Zealand. It is recommended for swimmers to use the public swimming pools if you value your health. It is a NZ regional government NZ government monitored service. Not always accurate.
Tummy, gastroenteritis, IBS Health Risks.
Storm water in our rivers, streams seas and ocean waters brings with it amounts of waste from animals and large quantities of untreated human sewage from overflows. This is a significant health risk after heavy rain. Only swim when the water is clear. This is hard to tell sometimes as the water is never clear compared to Mediterranean and tropical island waters. Wait for 48 to 72 hours after rain.

We ride our bikes from Island Bar right around the coast of Lyall Bay and back each time we visit. On a sunny day it is fantastic and on those frequent windy days it can be a challenge.

Went to Lyall Bay on a windy weekend. Beautiful place but was cold and windy that day. But there were little kids who didn't seem to mind it. Nice place to see flights take off from Wellington airport.
