We really enjoyed this tour. Ted is an excellent guide, charming, amusing with fun anecdotes, great local knowledge and was happy to tailor our tour to better suit our needs. The addition of the Weta Workshop tour was great preparation for our visit to the Gallipoli exhibition at Te Papa Museum the following day.

If you're in any way shape or form a Lord of the Rings fan this tour is an absolute must. If you're not then you should probably take a long hard look in the mirror and figure out where your life went wrong. Locations, charming tour guide, and the downright brilliant Weta workshop tour made for a truly memorable day.

Excellent half day trip. Small group and combined views from Mt Victoria with exploring the Hobbiton woods and enacting a couple of keg scenes with visit to workshop. Well informed and helpful guide and good film clips to ground the locations. Enjoyable afternoon , well organised and good value. Thanks a lot.

I did this tour on July 30th with my father and it was a really great time ! At the beginning, we were a bit skeptical because we had been shown an industrial area which was supposedly the place where the movie set of Minas Tirith and Helm's Deep was built. But don't be discouraged by that because I found the rest of the places much more recognizable and inspiring. My favorite being the Kaitoke Regional Park with its evergreen trees and its stunning elvish arch. The other places were also really great. Our guide Kate was so cool too ! She was informative, friendly and very cheerful which made our tour even more pleasant ! (plus the props we were given to recreate some of the scenes were quite a nice surprise) Furthermore, I recommend that you take the extra $28 visit in the Weta Cave. It's well worth the price and you're going to dive into the incredible magic of the cinema industry (more specifically the making of weapons, armours, miniatures, characters, "biggatures"...) As a conclusion I would say that I strongly recommend this tour, especially if you're a Lord of the rings fan like me ! :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to write :) Haha, the Helms Deep/Minas Tirith location does have some scratching their heads in disbelief. But when you learn what the film makers did with this place to create movie magic it becomes more amazing. Then the more scenic places we visit is a nice relief. I'll pass this on to Kate. She will be happy. Cheers!

I did the Weta Studio tour on my own and my guide recommended this movie tour to see LOTR sights. I spoke with Ted on the phone and had Kate as a guide. They are huge fans and have so much knowledge of the movies, back-stories, and of the cast and crew. Even questions we wondered out loud Kate had an answer to! There are comparable tours out there that are more expensive and are on a coach buses. This is in a passenger van and more affordable. There are plenty of opportunities to take photos and Kate always offered to take some for us, as well as surprising us with some props! If you like the movies, even a little, this is a must-do tour. As the movies were filmed 20ish years ago, many of these areas would be hard to find on your own and hard to imagine how they were utilized during filming without having the guides explain.

Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for taking the time to write. We avoid using big buses because everyone enjoys being part of a small group so much more. And those movie clips do help. Kate is great. Being such a fan and experienced as a hobbit filming extra makes her perfect as a guide. Cheers!
