Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having lived in Wellington for the last year and now returning to the states, I found that the Eastbourne Beach area is one of the world's most realxing areas. To sit at a beachside table and have lunch on a beautiful sunny day is truly one of this world's pleasures. It's a very peaceful and relaxing beach. With evergreens right behind you and the blue ocean in front, it's no wonder people spend hours on end there.

Eastbourne is a pretty unspoilt village with shops, galleries and many good cafes. Parking is easy and you can wander along the quiet beach at leisure. There is a memorial to thise who lost their lives in the Wahine Ferry disaster, as many bodies washed up here. There is a kids' playground and a lovely village church, that we visited.
Highly recommended.

A craggy, rock strewn strip of coastline, with bays and a small township which is nice for a stop for coffee. On a clear day you can see the South Island, often with snow tops on the alps.

I came to this place in winter on a Monday, in the late morning, looking for some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Wellington. The moment I stepped out from the bus, all I heard was the cries of the birds and the cold hitting my face. A few minutes walk along Rimu street and you get to the wharf where there is a couple of fisherman fishing. Though the weather wasn't the best, it was still a lovely place to be in for a few moments, listening to the swish of the waves, feeling the sun in your face, the wind and cold hitting you and watching the flight of the birds. Suggest that some food is brought so that you can have a meal while enjoying all these. Anytime is good for a visit so long it is not raining.

Near the bus stop, there are a couple of treks are that suitable for those interested in bushwalking or hikes. I didn't try them this time round, but will do so the next time round. Eastbourne beach is just a 15 minute walk to Days Bay along the coast. If you happen to be going to Days Bay as well, and like architecture/photography, I would recommend the hike up Williams Park to the Days Bay lookout. Take the walk down the lookout via the driveway and there are some wooden lovely houses on the way down. Once you reach the coast, walk in the direction away from Days Bay or Eastbourne and there are a couple of nicely painted bus stops and a rainbow stripe building along the coast good for photos as well.

When combined with Days Bay, Eastbourne is a good half day or day trip from Wellington. It is best to visit during the non-peak periods when you can really appreciate the peace and quiet of the area. Note that in the winter the bicycle or kayak shops are closed hence these activities will not be available. If planning on a day trip from Wellington on public transport, recommend purchasing the BusAbout Day pass for $9.50 and you get unlimited rides on any GoWellington and Valley Flyer services. With this pass, you can spend half a day in Eastbourne/.Days Bay and the remaining half of the day exploring Jackson Street in Petone, which is on the way back to Wellington. The above would best suit international visitors who have limited time and would like to explore suburban Wellington.

Very limited things to do and quite a small village area. I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon at 2.30pm and some of the shops in the village were closed.

Worth the drive to check out the city from the other side of the sea. We walked from the Boatshed at Days bay around to Eastbourne . The scenery was prett with interesting houses to photograph and it was peaceful to walk alongside the sea. Rona bay Wharf was also worth a visit it was simply breathtaking on a windy day. Plenty of little cafes to try for lunch or a coffee. Eastbourne had a very cool vibe.

Just making the drive around the bays to show people this area is well worth it whether the weather is helpful or not!! The bays are just lovely and the beach gives great views across the harbour towards the capital

When I lived in Wellington 20 years ago I never visited this place except in bad weather. It’s a lovely spot on a nice day. The wharf is great for jumping for the kids and you can kayak or SUP easily. Nice drive there too.
