About
Take a seat in this quiet sanctuary and breathe in the beauty of the architecture, stained glass windows and richly coloured furnishings. Become part of the Old St Paul’s story. Constructed between 1865 and 1866 from native timbers, Old St Paul’s is one of the finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the world. The building is a handsome sight from the outside. Inside, it is simply breathtaking. Spectacular lighting gives the interior a rosy glow, enriching the appearance of brass fittings, stained glass windows and exquisite illuminated panels. It is a glorious riot of colour and light, with excellent acoustics a memorable accompaniment. No longer a parish church, but still consecrated, Old St Paul's is non-denominational, and is proudly cared for by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga. Old St Paul’s is a unique venue for musicians, poets, authors, jugglers, thespians, and corporate offerings alike – suitably atmospheric and beautifully dramatic.

Breathless stained glass, wonderfully documented history of church in Wellington
If you love viewing churches, don't miss this one! The old wood is amazing and the stained glass is so lovely! Vestments from the 1800's are also on display. The history is documented throughout the building so you can take a self guided tour.

    Lovely old building
This is a lovely old wooden church which was almost demolished a few years ago. Fortunately, this architectural gem is now preserved and is well worth a visit. The interior still has a real spiritual feeling about it.

Lovely old church with helpful staff
Beautiful, lovely old church. It was a surprise to see the American flag and US Marines flag and I loved hearing the story behind it. I'm brining a new US flag on my next visit - the current one is getting a bit tattered.

Wonderful docent takes you through it's history & importance
The organist was practicing while we were there, poor acoustics surprisingly. Very nice interior and the story is meaningful. Wouldn't make this a destination but part of walking around that end of the district. Too bad the library is closed and you need reservations at the Beehive.

This lovely old (1866) church in central Wellington is well worth a visit. It is said to be one of the best examples of the Gothic-Revival style in the world. Certainly, the use of native timbers within the interior (especially the soaring ceiling) is exquisitely beautiful, as are the stained glass windows. While the building it still consecrated, it is no longer used for church services.
Old St Pauls is much more beautiful (and intimate) than the austere and much, much larger 'new' St Pauls cathedral, located about a block away.

Truly enjoyed this stop. The inside of the church is absolutely beautiful. The wood work is stunning. The individual giving the tour provided some great history of the area as well. I highly recommended you make this a stop.

Located very close to the parliament buildings, the outside of this cathedral is quite austere and imposing. It definitely doesn't look very inviting. This changes once you enter. The simple interior and lovely stained glass windows are much more welcoming.

We made a short stop here while on a shore excursion from our cruise ship. We were only here about 20 minutes but that was enough to walk around this beautiful wooden church and listen to the docents share information about it. There's even a plaque which talks of welcoming the US Marines in 1942. Overall, this is well worth a short visit.

Absolutely loved it.
I love historic buildings and this old church is magnificent! We took our time wandering around. My wife loved the print outs explaining the origins of the windows. The staff answered our questions without hesitation!
We spent two hours enjoying and soaking in the history!
A must to see for history lovers!

A visit to this beautiful historic old church is a must do when in Wellington. Despite there being other visitors I found it a peaceful experience. The guides were superb, giving visitors plenty of information about the church’s history.
