Hashigo Zake is New Zealand's most single minded beer outlet - defiantly excluding the bland, the boring and the industrial and only serving beer, wine, sake and whisky that our staff and regular customers get excited about. If any of that is a problem, Wellington has plenty of other outlets willing to take your money. But if you want an ever-rotating range of great drinks, brutally frank advice from knowledgeable staff, free wifi and a warm, welcoming environment, step out of the chaos above ground into our basement bar.

Whiskey ignorant, rude bar lady who didn't want our business. That's fine. We left. I was embarrassed to have taken my guests there. Won't happen again. Will never go back or recommend.

Dear Tania_and_Rick, Do you realise that TripAdvisor allows venues to respond to reviews such as yours? Do you *really* want that? cheers, Dominic

Probably the best bar in town if you are a craft beer geek. A "no crap on tap" motto also applies to their interesting and extensive bottle selection too - while an off-license allows one to continue enjoying some off site.

A group of mates eager to experience small breweries in Wellington CBD were disappointed with this establishment. Expensive, indifferent service- charisma bypass. We found better options elsewhere!

Finish the night here after beervana, loved the atmosphere and decor. Grabbed a couch as soon as it was available, and sipped a couple of umeshu's to wind down. Good stuff.

This is an interesting bar with a quirky ambience. It has a reasonable range of craft beer but even by NZ standards it is extremely expensive.More

Hi pboropixie, thanks for your feedback. I notice that when you reviewed Brothers in Auckland you said “We were surprised by how expensive they were” and when you reviewed Federal in Auckland you said “The beer was very expensive”. Looking at Federal’s wine list then,...More

Great place to sample a huge range of craft beers, both local and imported. No distractions with scenery or views in this basement drinking establishment. Great place to visit for a beer or three on a wet, or cold day.

Definitely a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Wellington. Huge variety of many different beers. Prices are a bit high so check the menu before ordering.
