We were walk on passengers Wellington to Picton. First the bad stuff - unfortunately, the 8:15am ferry sailing was delayed and communication on this was interesting to say the least. Email at 8:29pm the night before said 'Your 8:15am sailing tomorrow from Wellington 31/03/2022 will be delayed approximately 5-6 hours due to heavy loads and expected late arrivals' and a text Thurs morning 31 Mar at 6:05am said '...your 8.15am Wellington to Picton sailing today 30/3/2022 is delayed 5 - 6 hours due to its late arrival' - so the date was wrong on that! Fortunately they made up some time somewhere and we departed about 12:30pm on 31 Mar, only about 4 hours late. Getting ready to disembark in Picton and we didn't hear any instruction for departing 'walk off' passengers, but fortunately we followed a couple of people and ended up waiting in an unmarked area with a few others - so communication was a little lacking and signage not clear.
The good stuff. The day was calm and clear and we managed to secure a table in the lounge area near the bow with some great views along with way of a few pods of dolphins spotted. The coffee and scones we had were ok, facilities seemed clean and tidy and the shuttle bus driver at Picton was entertaining. I get delays happen, so have rated 'average'.

Thanks Bluebridge for showing your intelligence around no longer requiring the divisive passports and testing, esp when it is clear that neither of these measures makes a jot of difference! You have always been the superior service for me, except on one point and that's the wifi/reception which is not great at all. If you could have this bit sorted (clearly the staff feel the same way and are frustrated with it too), that would be the icing on the cake! I will continue to support you because of your common sense around the issue. Well done - I am sure you will be picking up more customers and supporters because of this! Bluebridge all the way!!!!

Dogs were fine in car, cool undercover and super friendly staff member told us to come get him if we wanted to check them. They were fine. Meals large and nice burger. Would of been nice to get a seat on outer side, not many available but mostly due to people lying down and I suppose distance rules but its not a very big boat. Would book Bluebridge again though

Travelling Picton to Wellington as a foot passenger. The shuttle bus to the terminal was very late. After checking in, we (and all the other foot passengers) were left to bake in a hot, unventilated room for an hour. No announcements of any kind were made. Finally, three minutes before the advertised sailing time, we were allowed to board.
Naturally, the ferry departed half an hour late, and naturally, no announcement was made of this.

Calm seas, beautiful weather and bunking down in the cabins on board made for a memorable crossing of the cook strait. absolutely worth it for the price. Only drawback is the weak wifi signal.

Way better than interislander. Overall we always have a great trip with bluebridge both for work or personal we always travel on bluebridge! Would love if they could look into a few more upgrades though like the seating which is pretty average for a 3.5hr trip. Great how they always make sure your pets can travel under cover but would be great if they had an area they could be with you on the boat.

We had a stunning crossing. The crossing the night before had been delayed due to inclement conditions.... We were advised early by text which enabled us to have a restful get up at the motel.. Thank you Bluebridge. Met several interesting people on board. Excellent breakfast... the cinema was fantastic and entering the Sound we spent the rest of the journey absorbing the amazing views... we even had two fishermen welcome us to the mainland...A truly restful start to our epic journey to pick up our campervan in Christchurch (we were in the car loaded with our worldly possessions)

Great if you love delays and lack of communication on the reason for the delay or the expected duration.
Pretty much the Jetstar of ferries.

Why is the BlueBridge Ferry ALWAYS late / delayed departure? Last 3 sailings have all been late by 3.5 hours, 45 minutes, 20 minutes - do you ever leave on time?

I’ve seen them departing late quite consistently from Wellington. It makes the 2.30 am trip a nightmare. Supposedly you can board by midnight and go into your cabin for a nice and warm sleep, but instead you’re freezing and sleepy staring at your dashboard in the car. Never doing that again. Does the interislander have a better record?

Hi, Yes you can usually check your bags in from 8am (once the previous sailing has gone) if you're on the 1.30pm sailing.

Can I park my car for two days at wellington ferry terminal? Is it safe to do so? How much will it cost me approximately? Thx.

I travel with interislander and yes, you can park the car at the car park there for a few days. Below are the info from interislander webpage :
Parking:
Short-term parking is available outside the terminal (free up to 30 minutes). Longer-term parking is available at a cost of $10 per vehicle per day. There are several ways to pay for this service: (1) feed the pay and display meter, (2) enquire at the terminal check-in counter or (3) drive up to the parking booth. The parking booth is open for all passenger sailing departures and arrivals. Please note the longer-term parking service cannot be booked in advance.

I can't find the cost of taking a car over on the Ferry - do you know a price range? trying to figure out if it is cheaper to rent a car in Picton and going on versus keeping the car we will have from Aukland

It is about $200 and the driver is in clued in that price but I think the passenger has to pay about $40 as well. We came across in our Motorhome
