Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you get a good day out here it's great.
The trip out is long and relaxing. Some boats come out here to fish, others to drop people off that either live on or holidaying on this island.
Excellent fishing, we got into a sheltered place which was great with plenty of fish. Returning back to port can be a little bumpy.
If you get the right weather we'll recommended day out.

Such a great destination, we were the for 3 nights and we wished we'd had stayed longer, great walks, great snorkeling, and pretty good DOC cabins. Good entertainment for the whole family

A beatiful spot, approximately 22 miles from Tauranga harbour enterance but lacks any real managed control and good services to stay on the island for any period of time.South East Bay is the bay to land at and where there is some accommodation.Popular with boaties that have all live aboard conveniences, they moore in the bay for safe anchorage & shelter. Pick the weather carefully, getting to and back from Mayor Island is great in good sea conditions but can be a hell of a trip in bad weather.

We go over on our boat so are independent but you can book a hut or take a tent through DOC, the island is serviced by a ferry (take seasick pills if you tend to get queasy cause it is an open water trip) and showers, toilets and a rustic cook house cater to your needs. Great walks, great beaches, take your camping gear and fishing rod and you are in for a real treat.

This is a must visit if you are into peace & quiet & enjoy walking or tramping. The local native wildlife & native trees make a great trip to this dormant volcano.

Remember this place like it was yesterday, from quite a few years back. Arrived via boat to stay a few nights with a small group from our class. The local penguins and seals were great to wake up to first thing in the morning in the Bay. Perfect place to camp, amenities more than adequate for our period of stay. Walking tracks were steep but that's to be expected, views were breath taking!

An amazing place to visit. A special place to spend the weekend - especially on a boat moored in South East Bay.
