Located slightly out of town, these gardens are incredible. While we were there it was Azalea and Rhododendron season, and the colour was gorgeous! Each garden is labeled and separate. Finally, there is a lovely overview of Lake Taupo at the top of the hill. A hidden jewel in Taupo.

We had a lovely walk amongst the azaleas and rhododendrons. There are nice bush walks too. This place would be suitable for someone in a wheel chair.

To be fair, it was the end of winter when we toured the gardens, but I expected more in terms of the maintenance of the gardens. Some of the trees did not look very healthy, many of them overcome with lichen. The selection of camellias and rhododendrons was incredible, but aside from these and azaleas, there was not much else... More

We enjoyed our drive through these gardens. There are spots where you can stop for picnics and to take photos of the surrounding views. The diversity of plants meant that the different foliages blended together to make a stunning picture. Would be great to visit at different times of the year.

It is located in the residential area of Taupo, very peaceful area for a picnic or to admire the flowers during spring. Driving around the botanical garden, we spotted some scenic spots for photography with Lake Taupo and the mountains as background. As well as driving out and down the residential area, the scenery facing Lake Taupo and the mountains... More

We visited in winter and many plants were not in bloom but getting ready for a great show! They have lots of diversity in plants and if we had been two weeks later would have had to wear sunglasses because of the brillance of the many blooms coming in! This is fully run by volunteer staff! We were guest of... More

Can only review on what we saw when we did the walk which was in July - most of the flowers were not blooming and it was also a bit difficult to find which walks to do.

In town for Queen's Birthday weekend, we wanted to do a quick nature walk before lunch. The Botanical Reserve was perfect. We walked through the Camellia area, since we knew some of them would still be blooming. The paths were very well defined, the bushes were all labeled, and they were lovely in that setting with so much native bush.

I wasn't overly thrilled with these gardens, having been to Auckland's botanicals numerous times. Although we didn't get out of the car, but just drove around the circuit and left. It was nice an relaxing, but didn't see a flower in sight because of the year. If we had walked I'm sure it would have been much nicer. Some lovely... More
